The Expanse 3x12 - 'Congregation' TIMESTAMP / FULL LENGTH Reaction & Review

Comments

I'm keen on checking his reactions out. I usually wait till people get to at least Home before I start in on their reactions though. The main plot of BSG I enjoyed, there were just too many episodes of people being stupid for no reason other than drama that I didn't like. IIRC the episode I gave up on was when some people were trying to start a rebellion or something.

I appreciate your observation that you don't like Clarissa as a character but think the performance is good. I agree. But I'll also add in, when we added Prax, it was only after 15 episodes or so and he was clearly a sympathetic character from the start who fit in with the characters we loved. Clarissa comes in later, when we're even more deeply rooted in our feelings for the main characters, and is clearly antagonistic. And the show did a great job of revealing not at first the Mao connection. I know I'm late to the game watching this a week after it came out, so I'll skip on plot points :) Thanks again for your enthusiasm with this great show!

I’m a big Clarissa fan, maybe because I can understand her idk, but I definitely don’t blame her for everything that happened in the ring. She is only responsible for her own actions. The fact that Holden had to head for the ring, would have most likely happened anyway. Porto Miller was leading him there anyway, if he hadn’t gone in, if someone else had gone charging in, the Protomoluce might have reacted in a worse way. It is very hard for victims of abuse to see their abuser for what they are, they make excuses and explain things away so they don’t fall off of the pedestal they’ve placed them on. When that’s your own father, it’s going to be even harder. It was easier for Clarissa to make Holden the villain, until he was right in front of her and she had no choice but to hear what he had to say. It completely shattered her world view, that was her at the end. Though I still hold her responsible for her actions and she should be held responsible for them, it’s what she does after this that will truly reflect the person she wants to be.

This reply is to your question under my other comment about BSG and yes it's Casual Nerd Reactions. (For some reason when I tried to reply there it said I was replying to myself?) I did like S2 of BSG, but S3 isn't doing it for me. I asked Chris (Casual Nerd) if this was a common complaint about S3 and he suggested it was, but that he felt it was worth continuing through the ups and downs of S3 for the S3 finale and ultimately for the next season and the show finale itself. I'll likely stop bingeing and do it more slowly to finish the show. I like the questions it raises for that period of time after 9/11 and the War on Terror. It's not as smooth or engaging as the Expanse, but they were definitely trying.

Is it Casual Nerd Reactions? Also, I couldn't make it through the second season of BSG. So much contrived drama. Couldn't stand it.

One of my very favorite 'lucky stumbles' :)

Arrgh, I do not want to wait for the next one! But I also like the anticipation of waiting for it! Once I get to Wednesday, anyway! So interesting how you explain what needs to happen next and it make a lot of sense that you can apply it to other shows so easily. I'm watching BSG with a different reactor and I so dislike S3 so far (three episodes in). I have to force myself to keep going while I eagerly await more Expanse. That reactor also just started viewing The Expanse for the first time! It's wild how people keep stumbling on it by word of mouth. Such an overlooked gem! Aren't we lucky we found it!

Dude...it is super tough :D

Fury Roll

Love this. Amazing dedication and respect for how Amos was to be presented. Fantastic

Yo, that outro was fuckin lit. Good job brother. I really enjoyed some of those metaphors. I understand the boxing one, but for me, my first watch felt a bit more like what Solomon Epstein experienced.

I just realized that if the ring station destroyed a solar system that means more than likely the act of doing so would end up damaging/destroying the ring that was built in that system. Or at least it probably would...

I'm just impressed that you have the willpower to ignore the compulsion to *immediately* watch the next episode...

BigSeth1090

I just love Ashford. The writers do such a great job showing us the different belief structures of each person we meet. You might not agree with the methods of behavior of a person but you'll absolutely understand them, despite any flaws in their thinking. Clarissa is totally one of those flawed thinkers, but then we see her mind working as she listens to Jim. I'm even imagining Clarissa at the bottom rung of a ladder and Amos standing at the top rung. Maybe he used to be like her, which is why he seeks out moral authorities.

LightningInvoker

I love the name of this episode: Congregation, everyone coming together in one place, one cathedral if you will (gosh I never thought of it that way until now!!) Next episode will be amazing!!

Etta Eskridge

This episode was the one and only time you've seen Drummer without her eye war paint. She is a force of nature and then some...

Deana DeWall

I love the scene where Clarissa can hear what Jim is saying. Here's your narcissistic asshole... It doesn't happen in the book and it's a very nice addition! Can't wait for next week!

Blackd0nuts

Your analysis is simply incredible. Tip of the ole Miller cap to ya. You are going to lose your mind in 3x13.

Matt Drahos

Great reaction, as usual. now I can't wait for your reaction to the next episode (the season and book finale).

Wes Chatham took the novella about Amos's backstory to a psychiatrist when he was cast for the role. Together they discussed the trauma that he'd been through, how that would manifest for him mentally, how he'd act physically. He built his performance for the character around that.

I've been refreshing every half hour! LET'S GO
