Just listening now also, as far as dubs v subs, I remember being in highschool watching an evangelion movie subs while doing acid and it was a wild experience. Dubs would have been a buzz kill to listen to 5 Gohan's cry. Such a wild show thematically. Totes agree that being to read with the foreign emotes behind it makes it so much better

Goku is unaware it was himself and when he sees Vegeta in the later episodes turn into the monkey, his anger is greater as he now believes it was Vegeta that killed his dad! this is based off memory for 20ish years ago...

Hey Crew Naruto for the next one ain't a bad idea but since you all talked about DB originating a lot of these tropes do you think the next one could be a recent show to show Jake how far action anime has come? Demon Slayer and Attack on Titan do this great and are award winning beginner anime.

As a Gohan stan this was a tough listen (though I can fully admit that early Gohan was pretty annoying)

As a kid I bought the actual Dragon Ball mangas, and honestly I always preferred to Z. It was fun and witty and carefree, and Goku wasn't always fucking dead. By the way the reason Goku was originally half monkey is that the original arc of Dragon Ball was a silly remake of Journey to the West.
