MC Real World Maps - Japan 30m resolution [40k]

This map is part of the project of making real world maps in Minecraft using very high resolution geographic data, started recently with the release of Italy Map at 30m, Central Europe Map at 50m and Sydney City at 5m resolution.

This time the work is focused on Japan, with a resolution of 30m, which means that a block in the game corresponds to 30m in the real world

Japan, located in the Pacific "Ring of Fire", boasts a variety of breathtaking landscapes that are perfectly suited for the use of high-resolution geographic data. From the spectacular coastlines overlooking the Pacific Ocean, such as the Izu Peninsula and Sagami Bay, to the snow-capped peaks of Mount Fuji, the highest mountain in the country and an iconic symbol of Japan, the Land of the Rising Sun offers an incredible diversity of scenery.

Mountain ranges, such as the Japanese Alps and the Hida Mountains, offer breathtaking hiking trails and stunning mountain views. The presence of numerous active and dormant volcanoes, including Mount Asama and Mount Sakurajima, adds a touch of drama to the landscape, while the thousands of islands that dot the Japanese archipelago, such as Hokkaido and Okinawa, offer a variety of unique ecosystems.

The resolution of the map is 30m (1 block in Minecraft corresponds to 30m in the real world).

The altitude of the map in the real world ranges from -9600m undersea to 3770m (Mount Fuji). In Minecraft, the lowest point on the map is at -128, while the highest point is at 184. Within the map there are 15 different biomes that vary mainly based on the altitude above sea level.

• Map size:  43000x48000 - large ocean chunks removed to lower the size of the map

• Map resolution: 1 block in the game correspond to 30m in the real world

• Map files size: 16.2gb compressed, 25.3gb uncompressed

• Japan’s Geospatial Information Authority 10m DEM data - cubic reinterpolation to 30m

• GEBCO 15arcsec resolution bathymetric data - cubic reinterpolation to 30m

• Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency 10m LAND COVER data for coasts, rivers and lakes - cubic reinterpolation to 30m
