My some-great-grandma was burned at the stake during the witch trials. She was completely innocent, but she was a wealthy woman with a large amount of land, so two greedy men set her up to be able to accuse her of witchcraft, making it seem as though she was evil and could shape-shifting so that she would die and her land would be auctioned off. My mom has a book that tells her whole story!
