Gladys Knight - Licence To Kill : Songs reunited in the study

Today, in one of my irregular chord progression studies, I was reunited with a song I have missed.

It is Licence To Kill, sung by Gladys Knight.

My first encounter with this song goes back to the first CD album I ever bought in my life, Michael Jackson's BAD.

I was completely fascinated by Michael's voice performance that came to life between the performances of the then trendy digital equipment, and I was looking for my next CD, wondering how exciting and wonderful American music is today.

That is when I turned my attention to this project CD "BALLADS," which was released in Japan. It contains the 1990 greatest hits of Diana Ross, a good friend of Michael's, and I thought, "It must have a lot of great songs on it, just like hers! And.

The album closes with Licence To Kill, the theme song from the James Bond series of movies.

I was greatly enchanted by the epic atmosphere and dramatic development of this song.

Today, after listening to this song for a while and analyzing the chord progression, I was able to get to the bottom of its secret.

While the intro and verse give the impression of cosmic floating with exaggerated modal interchanges in the intro and verse,

In the chorus, while using the usual diatonic chords, the chorus has a very unusual progression that seems to move to a different key but does not. This is a compositional invention.

Nevertheless, I found this video and calculated the year the LIVE took place and her age, and I shuddered!

She is 74 years old at this time! This extended and powerful voice! Incredible!

In addition to nostalgia, I was moved by her amazing performance as well as amazement and awe at how well she maintained her physical and vocal cords.
