Fearless TV (Part 1)

Fearless TV (Part 1)

Comments

I feel you, Mike. For us parents of adult children, "The Best Day" will grab your heart and squeeze! I cried at this 15 years ago and it still gets me in 2025.

Tinwhistle

i am sure countless other people have already told you guys this, but in "love story" right after the build is the line "he knelt to the ground and pulled out a ring and said marry me juliet" and so many people have been proposed to at her concerts with that line, which is why i feel like she makes sure to include that song in any concert she has!

Rachel

Lmao I knew you guys would be destroyed listening to ‘the best day’ just like ‘never grow up’

xiiicl

That would be fun!!

Meghan Hameister

would you guys ever react to Renee Rapp- Snow Angel?

Tess C

Omg this was one of the only lives I had watched in a while and it made me so emotional. I cried to never grow up as an a year old and put it on my "cant listen to" list because it has always made me cry. Now I'm 22 and I still cry

Aryhia Carston

Thinking about your discussion of how the originals sound compared to the TV’s… Rerecording is a different project than reimagining or revisiting. So, especially when you are dealing with fans that know every ad lib, breath, giggle, guitar lick, drumbeat, etc. a re-recording should sound pretty much like the original. And fundamentally they do. The technology is better so the sound is clearer and you can understand lyrics better, and instrumentation is somewhat different (most notably in 1989 I would say). The biggest differences come from the vocals. One, her voice has improved soooo much and she has really learned how to use it. Two, no matter how you mimic vocal inflections, etc, songs just feel different when you are 35 than they do when you’re 20 and no matter how good you are at tapping into the emotion, that break up just isn’t as painful 15 years later. Or maybe it pisses you off even more because you are now the same age as your older boyfriend was when you were dating. Or that song about the best day hits harder when your mom has battled cancer. I am not the world’s biggest Never Grow Up fan, but hearing grown up Taylor sing that song really hits in a way that it didn’t for me on the original. All of that to say, especially for Fearless and Speak Now, I actually would listen to the originals, even if not on camera. The differences may not stand out to you as much since you don’t know the originals. But it really is interesting to hear what’s different in sound and in feeling. Also, regarding a vault track EP - Fearless was the first re-record that came out and I don’t think anyone was totally sure if people would take to it or not since I don’t think anything exactly like this has been done, or not often. So the new content on the re-record was the incentive to get people to listen and, hopefully, get invested enough to switch versions (seems obvious in hindsight that Swifties would do that, but in the moment I don’t think it was.). So arguably the vault songs were released not so much because Taylor wanted them out in the world, but more to serve a purpose and a separate EP wouldn’t have had the same effect. (I agree with you on the Fearless vault, for what it’s worth). The interesting question for me with regard to vault songs is which is the chicken and which is the egg- do the vault songs sound like Midnights, TTPD and maybe a little Folkmore, or was Taylor working on vault songs and the sound inspired the albums? 😁 Almost forgot to say that while I have probably given up trying to predict what you will like or not, I really enjoyed your reaction. Thank you for giving Fearless a chance!

Nicole Gordon

See, I loved all of the re-records but struggled with Speak Now TV at first (I love it now - the vocals are just soooo good - but man, it was an adjustment) and the original Speak Now is one I definitely resonated more with at the time than Fearless (I’m 15-ish years older than Taylor so as much as I like the early stuff, I just don’t click with it as much. But makes sense to me that the ones you really love are the ones that the relationship with the TV is more complicated.

Nicole Gordon

“That’s better than a hallmark card” made me crack tf up

Cassandra

Fearless is a unique album. I became a fan of Taylor somewhere between Red and 1989. I listened to Fearless in full as a 28-year-old woman during the pandemic. Of course, most of the lyrics about teenage love had nothing to do with my reality at the time. But I definitely like the production of this album and of course I admire her ability to write lyrics at such a young age. Despite this, I love songs like Breathe, (which absolutely fits the lost friendship), The Best Day (the moment when she sings and "I love You for giving me your eyes"... I can't listen to this song without being moved. Her mother not only gave her the color of her eyes, but also her view of the world, beautiful). And Change, it is definitely full of pathos, it was used during the Beijing Olympics, for me it will always be associated with Obama's first victory. Fifteen is an incredibly mature song dressed in HS narratives. For me, Fearless standard edition is a complete project. I really like this album and I consider it one of the best in her discography.

Justyna

you guys have to react to her mash up of the best day x never grow up from the eras tour

A2313

*sigh* I swore to myself no more patreon and here you go doing fearless.... fml

T

so funny that you mention now a days you can chart 10 tongs all at once and she actually did that with midnights and again with tortured poets

rebecca pierce

scott borchetta discovered her and signed her to his brand new record company at the time he was her first real success and sold her masters to scooter without her knowledge when he knew scooter didn’t like her and she didn’t like him

rebecca pierce

it got me to dad.

Mark Barnwell

16. sorry.lol

Mark Barnwell

64 at 6,

Mark Barnwell

its is crazy tho think what she produced so young. think about this one, Paul MacCartney wrote When I am

Mark Barnwell

ohhhh duh that makes a lot of sense. Forgot that was so long ago so pre big streaming era of music

Michael

well said :)

Michael

It's a classic

Michael

Incredible

Michael

She mashed up Best Day and Never Grow Up (the speak now song you were remembering) in Vancouver last weekend. Omg you guys have to watch that!!!! 😭😭😭

Sarah

You can listen to the stolen versions, don’t let people tell you you can’t! We just don’t want to primarily listen to those for the most part, but if you prefer an OG there is no reason not to stream it. The “bad guys” sold their rights already and Taylor still gets royalties!

Sarah

I have all of her concert films so there’s plenty material left for you guys! I think I DMed it before but I can again if needed ☺️🫶🏻

Sarah

I’m turning 30 in a few months. This song came out when I was 14, and it was the very first song I listened to on my 15th birthday - half a life ago! ♥️ Still can’t quite believe she was so young when she wrote it.

Georgiana B.

Haha I spoke too soon, just started part 2. It totally was brutal and beautiful. Worth the watch, but I think it might wreck you both like it did the rest of us!

Marie Rabusa

I think you both would love her recent live surprise song mashup of Never Grow Up/The Best Day!

Marie Rabusa

Yeah ima need your dads reaction to “Easy A” bc it’s a fanfuckingtastic movie

Aldo Villarreal

evermore and reputation are tied #1 for me! completely dif vibes but both too good

kaylaco

Women/girls don’t mature faster than men scientifically (like in terms of brain development) however socially girls are expected to “know better”, look out for themselves, look out for danger (girls have dress codes as early as primary school to not *distract* boys) significantly earlier than boy. so socially we are putting the responsibility and blame on girls for things boys may do to them (you can commonly see the impact of this when young women do something they learn to regret when their brain is fully developed to be met with “she knew what she was doing” often in regards young women being with older men (because young women are somehow not the victims of older more powerful people but simply looking for an easy ride) or be *unable to do because of them* leading girls to “mature” faster. Unfortunately early maturity is a trauma response nearly the entire female population has experienced and then that’s used to push even more blame and responsibility on them pulling it away from our male counterparts resulting in even longer delays of male maturity.

Mandi

I always felt like Change was about her breaking into the music industry in general. It’s a song for her band, her parents, and everyone else who helped her get where she was at the time. And oh my was that song a sign of the times for Taylor! It’s so fun to listen to the innocence of young Taylor’s success compared to now.

Meghan Hameister

ooh i’m so glad that you’re listening to this while keeping in mind her age and when it was originally released. sometimes reactors will compare it to her more modern albums like folklore or midnights and say this album is bad in comparison, and i don’t think that’s really fair. this makes me so excited to see y’all listen to debut!! she was younger and you can tell by the writing, but she has a few insane hits even on that album. they were pretty massive on country charts, but they obviously didn’t make it over to mainstream pop charts like love story and you belong with me did :)

emmy

midnights is a top 3 Taylor album for me. Evermore is #1, hands down the best

sleepless_dream

Exactly this! 💛

Meagan Muller

The reason the streams are lower than you’d think on the original fearless is because she didn’t put it on streaming until June of 2017 because of how little artists made from streaming versus buying music. I’m sure numbers would be astronomical if it had been there the whole time. PS if you’ve never read it, you should read her open letter to Apple Music where she addresses this. 10/10 🤓

Caroline

unpopular opinion I am a midnights hater 🫣

kaylaco

still a great reaction love yall!

kaylaco

agreed on the maturity of her voice!!! but for some reason this is the only re-record it bothers me on, I love both red tv and speak now tv. I feel like bc this was the first rerelease maybe they didn’t quite have the technique perfected yet lol

kaylaco

as soon as i saw this post i knew the best day would get your dad<3 you guys are the best

izzy flaherty

Bringing Billie up so much in this album I think you’ll like this fact. Taylor won her first AOTY for Fearless. At the time she was the youngest artist to win AOTY until that is Billie came along and won it :)

Caitlin Green

Also fun little fact about the curly hair. Taylor’s hair is naturally curly! If you see any footage of her from nights where it was super humid or rainy on tour we all joke and say her hair gets reset to factory settings and will gradually become curlier as the night goes on!

Caitlin Green

Cried last night watching the last grainy live stream of the tour that has taken up the last two years of our lives. Having something like this to step into today to help to come to terms that our Taylor weekends are over was such a welcome surprise 💛 thank you guys so much for the reaction and I can’t wait for part 2!

Caitlin Green

When you said, "If you were lucky enough to be a teenage girl at the same time as her," I nearly started crying. I'm the same age as Taylor, and I've loved her since "Tim McGraw" was released as a single. It feels like I've had a lifelong friend cheering me on and comforting me through everything. It's such a strange mix of emotions, knowing I don’t actually know her and she’s not really my friend—but feeling lucky is definitely part of it. I've never been great at putting my feelings into words, but thankfully, Taylor has been doing that for me since I was 15.

Kristin Kirtz

I was 14 when this album came out and it’s literally the soundtrack to my teenage years. So nostalgic 🥹 fearless will always be in my top 3 Taylor albums 🫶

Mary M

I can definitely understand that it’s probably different for us because we haven’t heard the original and this is new to us mostly

Michael

Appreciate you, part 2 will be up very shortly!

Michael

Gonna show my dad this that sounds incredible

Michael

Just finished watching! This album is amazing, It must be such an awesome experience to listen to it for the first time ever. "The Way I Loved You" is my favorite track & it's such an underrated gem, even within the fandom! Also, some info about "Change", since y'all were curious about its meaning: It was originally dedicated to Scott Borchetta/her first record label, Big Machine Records. She was the very first artist signed to the label and started the song when she was first signed. It sat unfinished until she won the Horizon Award at the CMAs and looked out to the audience, where she saw Borcheta crying, inspiring her to finish the track. A quote by Taylor: "That’s when I finished it, because I knew I couldn’t finish it until something like that happened. It was absolutely the most amazing night of my life, getting to see the emotion of all the people who worked so hard for me." This was a fun one! Thanks for reacting!

Sophia Sanchez

I am the complete opposite, I prefer Fearless TV because of how much her voice improved with age and the nostalgia it brings to this album. But that’s also the best part of being a swiftie…we get to have BOTH ☺️

ECoff

Glad you're doing more Taylor reactions. I'd love if you watched her music videos too. Can't wait for us all to enjoy Debut and Reputation Taylor's Version with brand new vault tracks. 🩷

sleepless_dream

unpopular opinion, this is my least fav Taylor album, I guess I'd have to put debut lower but barely. Red is my second least favorite, right above fearless.

sleepless_dream

unpopular opinion but this is the only re-record I don’t like 😭 I grew up with this album so it just sounds all wrong to me the original is legit perfect

kaylaco

As a Swiftie and with the tour ending last night, waking up to this reaction felt like a warm hug from a friend. I really enjoyed your approach to the songs you were less familiar with and can’t wait to hear pt 2. Thanks!

ECoff

"Never Grow Up" is the song from Speak Now you guys are referencing as thematically similar to The Best Day <3

Cass

Thank you for this in our post-eras haze! The song from Speak Now you guys are talking about is Never Grow Up, and if you really want to get a good cry in, look up Taylor’s surprise song from a couple nights ago when she paid tribute to her family by mashing it up with The Best Day. OOF, waterworks!

Hollis

Thanks for the reaction. 🫶🏻 Best Day gets me everytime 🥹.

Caroline Farley

I love that you love Fearless ! And I don't have to go search to now the song from Speak Now you're talking about is Never Grow Up haha

Fernanda Bueno

The song on Speak Now you were thinking of is probably Never Grow Up! She mashed up the Best Day with Never grow up on the second to last show of the Eras tour two days ago and it absolutely broke me😥

Yvonne van Wanrooij

It's funny as my musical tastes have changed over the years, this album has always had a special place in my heart because it came out my freshman year of college when I was very intimidated, uncertain, and every day felt like a new opportunity to fail. Listening to this album back then and even now, I'm teleported right back to high school, where everything was about my dreams of the future and the romance of making eye contact with the boy I liked in the hallway between classes. It's a comfort album for me and I'm excited to listen through it with you guys this morning while I answer emails and file reports <3

Cass

You have blessed us on this sad post-eras tour Monday 🙏

Dayle

EASY A & INGLORIOUS BASTERDS MENTIONED!!! WOOHOOOO. i love both of those movies😭

noelle

OMG!! The og Fearless was my first Taylor album. I was at Hallmark with my mom when I heard Love Story on the radio, and I knew I had to get the album that the song was on. I've been a Swiftie ever since :-) Excited to see what y'all think!

Sophia Sanchez

Thank you !!! the perfect way to start the week after the eras tour ending!

noelle

let's gooooo
