Noah Kahan - Stick Season

Noah Kahan - Stick Season

I truly think all of the deluxe songs are better for this album

Siobhan Barrett

you guys definitely need to listen to the deluxe tracks and all the collabs he adds on

rebecca pierce

i’ve been listening to this album forever and ive never noticed his lisp and still don’t notice it im shocked it bothered you so much

rebecca pierce

I appreciate you thank you for sticking with the video 💗💗💗 View Between Villages was definitely a standout tracks one of the best songwriting

Michael

It took me a while to get through this reaction as someone who grew up with a lisp and worked very hard to get rid of it, that said, while I disagree with some of your commentary on the first half of the album (definitely think you should relisten to it and read into the lyrics a bit more), I appreciate hearing a different perspective about an album that I love so dearly. Growing Sideways is a song that struck me from the first 10 seconds and has been my favorite ever since. Orange Juice is incredible, so raw and vulnerable. I am so happy that y'all enjoyed those songs! I'm also happy to see that y'all liked Halloween so much as that one is one of my faves. The extended version of View Between Villages is even better so I definitely hope y'all do the deluxe. It definitely goes more with the second half of the album that the first.

danielle kloiber

Please please please I’m begging do the deluxe

Jamie Walker

I saw Kacey was on there!! I definitely want to hear that track, thanks so much for watching and supporting glad we could bring you some occasional comfort 👊🏼💗

Michael

as someone who has been deeply obsessed with this album for years, i appreciated hearing the POV of people who didn’t love every song. i totally agree that more harmonies moving forward would be a really nice thing to see from him. i think what people don’t understand is that on first listen, with next to no context, it’s extremely hard to emotionally connect with each song the way some of us have been for years 🤍 Growing Sideways and Orange Juice had me in tears on first listen, but other songs took me longer to fathom, and that’s the beauty of music! i hope you do give the deluxe tracks a chance, and i think the remixes with the features (Stick Season (Forever) version) could be interesting for y’all to listen to (whether on camera or not) just to see if you think some of the songs grab you more with an additional voice. Kacey is featured on one of that helps sway you 🫶 y’all are one of my comfort channels, i think the dynamic you have is really special and i appreciate you posting your videos even when you have differing opinions than what you know people are hoping for.

Kristen

Appreciate you watching!! 🙏🏼

Michael

Appreciate you! 🙏🏼

Michael

I only watched the songs that I really like, so maybe I missed most of what people are complaining about, but I enjoyed the reaction lol. Glad you guys always keep it real. I'd be annoyed if I could tell any reactors were overstating their enjoyment.

I want to recommend watching his live show from Fenway Park - he is an incredible performer and i think you both might enjoy some songs more live and you get a taste of Noah as a person, who’s very hard not to love. Its a bummer you didn’t love this as much as so many of us do, but thats okay. I think there was a lot of phenomenal lyricism missed by you both on this album - a lot of double meanings under the surface. But they are also easy to miss on a first listen. But for me, no one writes about mental health better than Noah. I think he makes those us that that deal with similar things feel incredibly seen. The first time i heard Growing Sideways i cried so hard, i had never felt so seen. Also 8 songs from this album have features on the deluxe - many are artists you both enjoy. So i highly recommend those. Happy you guys finally reacted to this, hopefully it will grow on you with more listens.

Maryn Levi

honestly i’m with everyone else- while you don’t have to love the sound or music you missed a lot of good writing and were kinda dismissive of the reality of living in a small town. alongside everyone else it seems the mocking and continued discussion of the speech impediment was disappointing- it’s a very minor thing to pick out and disappointing to have spent that much time on making fun of the way he speaks

kate b

I definitely don’t have the heart to listen to this. For those of you who are Noah fans, this is a great article from a year ago in Time magazine. The work he’s done with The Busyhead Project is so admirable and amazing. https://time.com/collection/time100-voices/6322240/noah-kahan-depersonalization-mental-health/#:~:text=Noah%20Kahan%20reflects%20on%20his,anxiety%20on%20Mental%20Health%20Day.&text=It%20would%20happen%20in,and%20at%20middle%20school%20dances.

Appreciate you! 🙏🏼

Michael

That last part, exactly👏

tom_j

Did this reaction hurt my feelings? Yes. Did I watch the whole video? Also yes. haha knowing you guys liked the back half of the album, the deluxe tracks are definitely worth a listen. They are actually what drew me into this project. Thanks guys! :)

Alycia Ortiz

I love that project definitely want to show my dad I think he would like some of the old school rap vibes

Michael

New perspective is my favorite song on the album and it was hard to listen to them hate it 😭

Mary M

Based on your reaction to the 2nd half of the album, I think you’ll enjoy the deluxe tracks as well :) Have tissues handy for Call Your Mom! Mike, woof. I often don’t agree with some of your criticisms that can veer from comments on the music and toward comments on the artists themselves (ie maturity level etc), but I also don’t get offended or anything. Makes sense. *This was not that* If you don’t like the sound of someone’s voice, whether it be pronunciation or cadence or whatever, totally get that! Straight up laughing at his lisp was pretty disrespectful though. I don’t think you should ever apologize for your taste or opinion, but I do think that part of it deserves an apology. Yikes. Love you guys for real and your constant authenticity! Hoping for some more maturity going forward from someone often commenting on others’ immaturity 👀

On new perspective: Vermont got its first Target in 2018 fyi. I grew up in a small town and when we got a target it was a huge deal for the town so he’s using it as a turn of phrase of how new things can change the layout of your memories of places/people. And how he wishes he could keep things the same.

Katelyn Miller

not shocked you guys don’t like this, we’re usually aligned in terms of taste and it took me multiple listens to appreciate this album lol. that said, you guys should listen to Doechii - alligator bites never heal, it’s blowing up and I think you guys would love

kaylaco

As someone who has suffered greatly with depression for all of my adult life, this album was and is everything for me. I understand it’s not everyone’s cup of tea but this has been really hard to watch 😭 I feel like y’all definitely should have cut out the parts making fun of his speech impediment because that’s not something he can help.

Mary M

yikes guys idk if this is a good video for youtube :/ this was a frustrating watch. you guys are entitled to your opinions of course, but the intolerance of/laughing at his speech impediment saying its “off putting” is deeply upsetting .. im not even halfway through the video and mike man, youve pointed it out 6 times laughed at it 4 times, and straight up called if off putting. ive listened to this album since its release and i have never noticed it.

Kayla Deyo

listening to this album as somebody who grew up in a small conservative town makes it hit different lol, i cannot listen without ending up in tears

Ann Askew

this reaction made me realize how many people did not grow up in small towns LOL

Ann Askew

Oof. I’ve watched at least a dozen reactions to this album and have never heard someone comment on his lisp. Disappointed but really not surprised

Morgan Sanderson

YESSS

Kristen

Yeah definitely would not have kept listening on my own but some really great tracks on the second half so glad we stuck with it :) thanks for watching!

Michael

i second this!! the deluxe songs are the best

Ann Askew

PLS DO THE DELUXE TRACKS

Mikayla Gilkerson

OH I BEEN WAITIN FOR THIS ONE BABY LETS GO

Mikayla Gilkerson

Still think the deluxe version tracks and features are worth a listen :)

J

also for something completely different, there's an insanely creative and incredible live cover of Lose Yourself by Kasey Chambers that i've probably watched 30 different reactions of by now. might be a nice palate cleanser

roseh

olivia rodrigo also covered Stick Season in the BBC Live Lounge. you might like that version better, and i'm sure that contributed to its popularity

roseh

it took me a while to get into noah because this more upbeat acoustic side of indie folk usually isnt for me. i actually only listened to the album because a reaction channel called "chats and reacts" reacted to it, and their reactions have made me see albums more generously before. and even then Orange Juice was the first one where i stopped the video to go listen to the rest of the song, but on separate listens i really liked Come Over too. and of course the last song is great. but by far my favorite song of his is one of the deluxe tracks, "No Complaints."

roseh

Based on your other reactions, not surprised this isn’t your favorite. TBH, it’s not my day-to-day vibe, either, and while Stick Season is my JAM and some songs like Orange Juice and Home Sick are awesome, it’s not a front-to-back listen for me. That said, I do think the disconnect on the production made you miss some of the depth of the lyrics in the earlier songs. For example Stick Season does talk about drinking, but not like a young guy being 20 and partying. He says “I’ll drink alcohol til my friends come home for Christmas” suggesting there’s nothing to do in town but drink while he waits for his friends who actually made it out of the town come back. But they will leave after the holidays and he will still be stuck. And I love She Called Me Back because of the line in Stick Season where he says “you once called me forever, now you still can’t call me back.” So while it’s never going to be your thing, probably, you might take one more listen now that you know what to expect and see if you get more out of the beginning. The fixation on the speech impediment was off-putting, but I will say that I appreciated that you eventually clicked into a few songs and kept trying. Made me hear the back half of the album differently - I have usually hit my limit with the overall sound by then, so I don’t listen to it much, but I could hear the difference as you were hearing it and that was great.

Nicole Gordon

I was actually very much looking forward to this but almost an hour in it’s making me very sad. Everyone is entitled to their opinion of course but as someone who suffers with a speech impediment the constant laughing and criticism of it is very disheartening.

Heather Thompson

the obsession with the speech impediment is so weird to me... do you find all disabilities funny?

roseh

That’s probably my favorite song on the album too

Michael

Omg finally ❤️

Daisy

Orange juice is my favorite on the album!! Not done with the video yet but had to comment

Chaney Hambrick
