2024-10-31 03:22:39 +0000 UTCI should point out that someone corrected me about the 3rd verse in Take Your Mask Off - he uses the final verse to reflect on himself - but I think it is very intentional that Drake could also hear that verse and identify with a lot of the criticism Tyler chooses to use. Its even more creative way to dig at Drake and be team Kendrick while at the same time and more importantly make a creative message that’s bigger than the beef and allegorical of life

2024-10-29 20:29:46 +0000 UTCOk - love that you mentioned the old OF/loiter squad folks because as soon as he mentioned skating to Hamilton (a local high school, we usually call it Hami but I get how rhyme scheme/flow fit better with the syllables) my ears perked up on my first listen. Growing up in LA at the same time as most of the crew was a trip lol. When you mentioned how the production sounds like Pharrell, I HIGHLY recommend you listen to the podcast Dissect about Flower Boy. Tyler geeks out about how he looked up to him and it’s a clear influence on his production. Basically, you were spot on. Balloon was also an immediate favorite and Hey Jane was an immediate tear jerker for me. I think one that grew on me (not that I didn’t like it at first, just wasn’t paying much attention) after watching this react was Sticky just based on how much your dad got into it. I gotta see a marching band do it now too.

2024-10-29 20:21:40 +0000 UTCThat 3rd verse on “take your mask off” is 100% about Drake and I am not the guy who thinks everything is a diss , but every single thing he said in that verse applies to Drake 🤷♂️ and he also makes it clear he sides with Kendrick on wax and bts. And yes that is his mother speaking throughout the album Tyler was almost surprised at the reception he got at the pop out concert and realized that he’s loved by west coast and that’s why he said “the best out the city after Kenny that’s a fact now” because he got the loudest roar from the crowd besides Kendrick
