Il 29 febbraio la vettura fu presentata in anteprima al presidente Sandro Pertini, nei giardini del Quirinale, e il 5 marzo la nuova utilitaria definitivamente denominata Panda fu esposta al Salone di Ginevra; proseguendo il nuovo tipo di identificazione iniziato nel 1978 con la Ritmo, il reparto marketing FIAT ha deciso di dare alla vettura un nome di fantasia piuttosto che la designazione del progetto interno. L'anno successivo si piazzò al secondo posto per il titolo Car of the Year.La vettura in questione era equipaggiata con un motore a quattro cilindri raffreddato ad acqua 903 cm³ precedentemente motore della Fiat 127 ("Panda 45"), era destinata a montare tra la 126 e la 127. A quel tempo, un'auto per giovani doveva essere robusta, spartana e molto veloce, adatta alle più svariate situazioni e condizioni d'uso, così come economico in acquisto e gestione.Questa versione è stata utilizzata per un periodo di tempo nello slalom italiano.La panda è stato realizzato in versione gruppo 2 ed è fornito con diverse livree create in collaborazione con il Team Agave Corse e RMF24 SKIN.

On 29 February the car was previewed to President Sandro Pertini, in the Quirinale gardens, and on 5 March the new utility car definitively called Panda was exhibited at the Geneva Motor Show; continuing the new type of identification begun in 1978 with the Ritmo, the FIAT marketing department decided to give the car a fancy name rather than the designation of the internal project. The following year it took second place for the Car of the Year title.The car in question was equipped with a 903 cm³ water-cooled four-cylinder engine, formerly the engine of the Fiat 127 ("Panda 45"), it was destined to fit between the 126 and 127. At that time, a car for young had to be robust, spartan, and very fast, suitable for the most varied situations and conditions of use, as well as economic in purchase and management.This version was used for a period of time in Italian slalom.The panda was made in group 2 version and is supplied with different liveries created in collaboration with Team Agave Corse and RMF24 SKIN.
