Greetings, everyone!
This week, I finished almost all the functionality for opening booster packs. This includes all the graphical bells and whistles, the audio, and the experience of seeing each card revealed one by one dramatically. I want booster packs to feel special, and I feel like I have achieved that with what I've made here.
The game still lacks functionality for handling the inevitable situation where you are supposed to draw a card of a specific rarity but already own all such cards. There is supposed to be a compensation mechanic for such cases, but I have yet to implement it.
Since the last progress report, I also began work on the gameplay music for the new model you will photograph in 2.0. I'm only about 2:30 into the song, but what I have so far is fantastic, at least to my ears. It's a totally different vibe from Vanguard's theme that really gives the new model her own style and personality just from the music alone. I can't wait until you get to hear it. Obviously, I need to finish it first, which might still take several days of hard work. I expect to spend most of my time on this until the next progress report, but we will see.
We're getting to the point where I feel like you've possibly seen enough previews (I don't want to spoil all the surprises), but we'll keep going for now. This week's card is one you will begin with in your starter deck, at least unless I change something at the last minute. There isn't really anything special about the "Motivation Boost" card except that it introduces more ways for you to spend excess Heat toward the end of a match. If you find yourself regularly running low on Heat while having a lot of Usable Heat, this card might be just what you need. Then again, it's not terribly useful until the late game, making its inclusion in your deck highly situational.
And with that, it's back to composing music.
Until next time!
