Progress Report

This update is killing me. Actually, let me rephrase that: The last update and this update put together, are killing me. My body is screaming at me to slow down a little, and so I have.

While it can be hard to make a good sex scene because of all the moving parts (sometimes literally) that go into them, it turns out making dramatic scenes is harder. I'm about to hit this update's 40th render, and they're all used for dialogue. It's been incredibly tricky picking when things are going to happen, how they are supposed to progress, and how they should look. With how hard I pushed myself to make a stellar update last month, I wasn't prepared for how much of an uphill battle it would be to really get going this month.

On the other hand, some of the things I've been making are ending up better than I had imagined them in my mind, which is kind of cool. There is this endless battle between show and tell when you make a game like this. Showing is always best, but sometimes it's just not worth spending time rendering images that would have a hard time conveying what they are supposed to anyway. So I sometimes choose to tell instead, for example, by bringing up the good old descriptive text in the middle of the screen to connect scenes. 

For dramatic moments, however, I feel like it's essential to make the images tell as much of the story as they can. Movies and TV shows do this in subtle ways, with actors communicating a lot using nothing but their eyes. That's really hard to do when all you have to work with are still images that have to be individually rendered from initially lifeless 3D models. Even so, I have situations in the upcoming update where I actually feel like I managed to pull this effect off, letting the characters' expressions tell parts of the story so that I don't have to spell it out in the text. That kind of thing makes me happy.

I honestly can't wait until I've finished this scene I've been slowly plodding my way through. It's a vital scene, but I'm finding it a challenge to complete. It will be fun to get back to the good old sex.
