Raw Game Design, ep11: Fantasy Strike's new button?

This is a summary of the design issues over the last few weeks for Fantasy Strike. It's an attempt to solve a problem that no one actually has: that maybe you need more tools to enjoy the game for a long time. Even though though this fighting game has gone over really well already, I summarize the exploration of what we can do in case we want to add something to the game to make sure there's enough tools to enjoy it for a long time.


In a couple weeks, the higher tier patrons will be able to actually play what I ended up deciding here.

Ok cool, I hadn't thought about the cancel into specials point. My worry was more that it could be constraining on thinking. Like maybe the right design for BBB actually needs 4 "normals" to cover different types of limb-stretch attacks and only 2 things that "feel like specials". I would hate for that design to be missed because we thought that he should only have 1 button's worth of normals. But it sounds like you are already aware of this, so I will have faith.
