Sirlin on Game Design, Podcast Episode 7: Sequels

We talk about sequels to movies and games in this episode. There's several kinds of sequels, so we go over the different purposes of various sequels first. In the end, we get sequels of highly replayable games, such as Street Fighter or Puzzle Strike. It's taken a while to make a new episode because of me getting sick twice and then Aphotix being sick too. What a hassle. Thanks for your support everyone!

ah, now I know who you are. Thanks for clearing that up :)

Yeah, we've played yomi and chess2 a bit. I usually go by pfiidude online. And I've see you on here, as well as the FS forums, quite a bit. Guess I forgot this is my real name and not my tagname. sry And I wasn't trying to be rude, just jesting. We all love this stuff, and get really excited about it. That's why we're here s(^_^)-b go us!

mmmh, you seem to know me but I am unfamiliar with you. Do you have a different online name you usually go by? Yeah I guess I tend to go on for a bit. But it is a topic I am interested in and am trying to solve myself so it makes me go on for even longer.

First of all, Clan, I love you and all.... but at 5 paragraphs, I think you've fallen into yelp review territory. THAT ^^^ is a novel that I could only bring my self to read half of. My personal problem with example expansion A (with 2 new characters) and example expansion B (with only balancing/polishing updates) is that over the past decade it has become a trend in the video game industry for developers to release unfinished/unpolished games in order to hit their deadline, with the intention of patching/fixing/finishing them later via online updates. I know it is not the same thing as an expansion, but as this practice becomes more common place, it becomes hard NOT to associate 'updates' with un-polished releases.
