We're moving to Patreon!

We're moving Skyline Edge to Patreon from Ko-fi as we've run into issues with it over time, to name a few:

1) We cannot add payment methods such as Visa, MasterCard, etc., as we would need to personally provide support to prevent charge-backs and fraud, which we cannot do at our size, requirements such as needing a customer support phone number make this even harder.

2) Ko-fi's Discord integration could be better; we've had several cases where it wouldn't give someone the role even though their account is linked.

3) One-time tips are misleading; multiple people have assumed this would get them access to Edge like a membership, but Ko-fi cannot handle assigning Discord roles in this case, so we need to do it manually.

4) Ko-fi's API is webhook-based, requiring our servers to have a static IP, and if we ever miss any events, we'd need to add them manually, which would be a maintenance nightmare.

The last point, in particular, ended up being a deal-breaker; a proper API is essential for our upcoming Play Store/F-Droid versions of Edge (and regular Skyline) for those who want automatic updates, but this won't change anything for those who grab the APKs from our Discord.

In addition, the amount of support we've needed to provide due to (1), (2) and (3) with a small team resulted in it being better for us to move to Patreon, where these issues shouldn't exist. We can appreciate what Ko-fi is doing in this space, but it's significantly worse than Patreon for our current needs.

Ultimately, our decision came from being early in, so we could migrate to a better platform or struggle with Ko-fi's limitations for years to come.

Now that we've moved to Patreon, Edge subscribers who couldn't pay using PayPal can now do so via their Visa, MasterCard, and other cards; those who want to continue using PayPal can do so, as Patreon supports both. 

As a note for Chinese users who want to pay via Alipay or WeChat Pay, Patreon doesn't support these, but we'll look into a way to do so and try to add support in the future.

As for the migration process, all existing Edge subscribers on Ko-fi will have their subscriptions cancelled on our end over the coming days. We'll provide a window until the 15th of December to subscribe to Skyline on Patreon; till then, all Ko-fi subscribers will continue to have access to all Edge benefits.

As a final note, we've received such a large amount of support from the community. None of us could've ever seen this coming, and from the bottom of our hearts, thank you.
