Glad to hear that. Just finished Cradle and it seems like the author went the procrustean route of chopping up the story to fit the book count. Like the entire abidan conflict the story was building up to from book 1 turned out to be almost entirely irrelevant to the main cast of characters.

He's always been described as half Japanese half Australian. A "Banana" by his cousin ('yellow on the outside, white on the inside'). So he'd be somewhere between white and Asian complexion.
