Cragmaw Hideout - Lost Mine of Phandelver [35x30] (All Tiers)

"The passage is suddenly filled with a mighty roar, as a huge surge of rushing water pours down from above!"

For me, the triggering of this trap was one of the most memorable moments of my first campaign as a DM, so I'm excited to share this map and some extra elements to bring it alive in your game. (My players avoided being washed out of the cave but got themselves deep into trouble inside; tried to con their way out; failed; tried to fight which didn't go well; and ended up dragging 2 unconscious party members from the cave.)

Cragmaw Hideout, home to Klarg and his tribe of bandits, located just off the Triboar Trail, perfect to plunder loot from unsuspecting travelers.

Map Notes. As with all my maps for published adventures, this one should match the descriptions fairly closely.  On first glance, you will notice that the area to the south of the entrance has been expanded to give players some more options on approach - the map should match well in terms of feel to the goblin ambush map suggesting this is just a few minutes up the hidden trail from the ambush site.  The trail becomes slightly more pronounced near the entrance and a couple of stepping stones are in place to cross the creek as the Cragmaws come and go from their hideout.  Once inside, there is an extra chain in area 3 (perhaps there was a 4th wolf at some point, or maybe Ripper is down there on occasion when not by Klarg's side).

In area 7 I have added some ropes and bits of wood to the makeshift dams/flood traps so that there is a quick and easy way for the goblins to feasibly trigger the trap.  Now for the fun stuff: I've included a number of png files in each zip folder to simulate the flooding of the cave.  You will find 4 phases of the flood + a "Pool 2" image that allows you to re-use the first 4 phases when the second pool is released. These are all sized for each VTT option and dimensions of each are denoted in the filenames.  If you are on Foundry VTT I'd highly recommend Monk's Active Tiles module to facilitate changing the phases (a bit of leg work ahead of time but well worth it when running the game!)

Variants. Day, Night, Fog.  As it could be foggy on the ambush map I figured I'd better continue that here.  It isn't always sunny on the sword coast.

Files.  The zip files below have all variants of the map in whichever format you need.  They also include a DM overlay which has the room numbers that correspond to the published adventure, and the flood/water trap images described above. Roll20Free is a .jpg < 5MB, Roll20Paid is a .jpg < 10MB, while Foundry formats are dd2vtt files. Roll20 maps are at 70 and 140 px per grid cell respectively and the Foundry files are 100px.  Are you a new DM and need some suggestions on how to set up maps and use my files? Check out this post here.
