Goblin Ambush - Lost Mine of Phandelver [40x30] (All Tiers)

"You've been on the Triboar Trail for about half a day. As you come around a bend..."

This was the start of my DM journey - and I'm now re-running this adventure with a new group of players and I'm excited to share these maps for your game.

Here we go! The first Lost Mine of Phandelver map and possibly an encounter that kills more characters (those soft squishy level 1 types) than any other in D&D.  Not because it's inherently hard; but because so many D&D groups start here and Lvl 1 TPK's are probably the most common.

But wait, this isn't Dungeon of the Mad Mage.  See my update here about where things are at and why there is suddenly a LMOP map being released.

Map Notes. A curving path; trees, thickets, and steep slopes pressing tight on either side; up ahead, 2 dead horses with black feathered arrows.  I tried to map this as closely to the description as possible so you can simply read the text boxes to your players without having to remember to edit anything.  I also wanted the forest to feel like a forest - not just dropping down a few random trees and call it a day.  Downed logs, shrubs and underbrush, dead leaves, shadows and highlights from the canopy above.

The hidden trail is subtle - but it becomes more obvious the longer you look - heading due north off the top edge of the map.  Play wise, I wanted the terrain to offer options for some cover (trees/rocks) and some high and low ground - maybe a cautious player creeps up the slope on the north side of the trail and uncovers a goblin hiding in the underbrush before the ambush is sprung.

The ox cart is included separately as a Token (or Foundry = Tile).  It is simply included in the above image for illustrative purposes.  The dead horses are embedded in the map image - but there is a "generic" version as well that doesn't have the horses if you wanted to run things a little differently (or want to use this map elsewhere for a random encounter!)

For Foundry players - note the trees are all walled.  This produces a lot of walls so it may be slow to load up and if you're running on a lower end system you may want to simplify the tree walls (X's work great).  Based on experience, I would set wall types to allow movement through them (you get too many conflict warnings as players try to move their token otherwise), and set them up to allow limited sight so players can see the trunk, but not what is behind it.

Variants. Day, Night, Fog, Generic.

Files.  The zip files below have all variants of the map in whichever format you need. Roll20Free is a .jpg < 5MB, Roll20Paid is a .jpg < 10MB, while Foundry formats are dd2vtt files. Roll20 maps are at 70 and 140 px per grid cell respectively and the Foundry files are 100px.  Are you a new DM and need some suggestions on how to set up maps and use my files? Check out this post here.

This is a nice alternative to the very popular map by Venatus Maps. I like them both; it's great to have options!

Great work as always!
