Exclusive: The First Workbench Sessions for EVERYONE!
Added 2021-07-30 14:28:57 +0000 UTC
Friends:
After a lot of thought, I've decided to share the recording of the first Workbench Sessions with ALL PATRONS, regardless of your support level. Everyone here has helped me get to the point where I could attract a guest of Shannon's stature and pay him a fair fee for his time.
Several Patrons have also asked if they could see one of these before deciding to upgrade, and that's a very fair request.
We had some technical hurdles with the first one, so the recording took a little longer to get up.
I think everyone in the live-stream had a great time. The chat was lively and good questions were asked. Shannon really seemed to appreciate thoughtful questions. I also asked a couple from the Discourse discussion thread, so thanks for asking those!
Going forward, the livestream is available to $7 members and recorded videos like this one will only be available to members at $5 and up. If you'd like to change you membership level, here's a helpful little article.
If you're reading this and you're totally confused, check out this video.
This is my "week off", so no video tomorrow, but I'm spending next week in CT at my parents' 18th Century farm, so I intend to make a couple of videos there. Lots of good stuff coming up!
Have a great week!

This was fantastic, I enjoyed it a LOT. It got me wondering, what would my first 2 saw purchases be? :P

Almost exactly what my dad taught me in the 1950s. Make the shoulder swing like a hinge, keep the elbow inline and check the wrist movements from side to side... finger pointing to the cut. Just worry about your joints lining up and hinging correctly. The basics never change. I have changed. I got lazy with power saws. I need to re-discipline myself to trust the saw... it knows if you are doing it right.

I watched most of that - through half-screen blackout problems with Youtube and Windows. They'll be preserved for future viewing, I hope!

That was great rex he reminds me of my cricket coach when I was young. Get your body in the right spot and the ball will go where you want it, a lot like sawing as it turns out. I have not used power saws very often, couldn't afford them, and what he teaches really rings true. Thank you that would have taken a lot to set up, I work in electronic media nice professional job.

I found this first workbench session extremely helpful. And I enjoyed it too. There is a gold mine of information through the resources you provide. I especially like the Discourse Discussion Forum. Your videos along with the related plans you provide are amazingly helpful. The $7 is a fantastic value for what I get in return. It's practical stuff that I can follow. It has been so rewarding to see my meager woodworking skills getting better each week. Thanks a ton for what you are providing people like me.

I would like it .. very much.. to learn more about gaining efficiency while truing a crooked, twisted, cupped, bowed larges pieces of woods. Theses saw talks sounded really nicely in my echo box.

I'm really hoping to turn this Patreon into something that's never existed before. A much richer source of community and knowledge. More good stuff coming.

Previously, I was on the $2 plan and honestly, I was a little hesitant to upgrade, I've heard Shannon talk before, I've watched his videos. But I thought I'd give it a go, at least for a few months and I am SO glad I did. that was an excellent presentation. Thank you for putting this all together Rex!

I grew up in Enfield and Warehouse Point, but I haven't been back in almost 40 years now. I have family in Manchester, Rocky Hill, and West Hartford.

I thought I knew a lot about saws and sawing, but even I was taken aback by everything Shannon talked about. This is WELL WORTH watching over and over again. Once I start my new job I'm going to upgrading my monthly contribution.

Fantastic first video of this kind. Really learned a lot, not just by the theory, but seeing in real-time the practice of applying it. Excellent learning video!! More of this!!

Brilliant Rex! I came to patreon just for more content from my favorite guys on YouTube and from who I joined on with you and James were really the only two that had extra content. But this type of stuff is way above and beyond and so much more than I could have hoped! Amazing idea and just as good execution! Thank you!

Fabulous Rex! If this is any indication of the direction and format of these Workbench Sessions I am so glad I signed up. Now I just have to be sure to get to my computer on time and see it live. Thank you Mr. Rogers for the excellent tutorial on proper sawing. Everything you mentioned is everything I have been doing wrong for ages. Now I know how to start anew. Take care all.

That was so fun and informative. The timing of the info for me was special as I’m coming to terms with wobbly saw lines could not have been better. I recommend everyone upgrade your sub!!!
