2026-02-13 00:48:38 +0000 UTCThis movie was really the turning point for the franchise, as no one really believed that a teamup movie like this could work. I think the big difference here is that, since all the characters had been introduced in other films before, they didn’t need to spend any time doing anybody’s origin story and instead could focus on getting the team together and dealing with the plot at hand. A lot of other franchise jump to the teamup too quickly and are unable to do the full team justice in the way this film does. To answer your questions at the end of the edit, I don’t think you’ve missed anything regarding Black Widow or Hawkeye. Each of them only appeared in one MCU film prior to this (Hawkeye was in Thor, he was the overwatch sniper with the bow who was watching Thor fight his way to the hammer) and they didn’t delve much into their backstories in those instances. Loved the reaction, looking forward to more!

My friend and I went to a Boston Pizza after, buzzing as you do after watching a movie like this. While discussing, we hear a song playing, and we wonder if it's a new Sting tune, as many did at first. In fact it was Gotye's mega-hit "Somebody I Used To Know". What a cool song, we say, its ear-worminess lodging inside immediately. So now Avengers and Gotye are intimately linked in my memories.
