She was the second nuclear powered carrier to be constructed by the United States, the first being USS Enterprise (CVN-65), which was commissioned in 1961. With the Enterprise being decommissioned in 2017, the Nimitz is currently the oldest aircraft carrier in commission for the United States Navy. She is currently on her final deployment and planned to be decommissioned and deactivated around 2026/2027.
