Shortly after filming this episode Patrick Stewart was flipping channels on TV and came across an episode of the British sci-fi comedy show Red Dwarf called Gunmen of the Apocalypse that also had a virtual reality western theme and he immediately thought they were ripping off TNG. As he was calling his lawyer he continued watching and realized it was not, and he became a huge fan of that show. That episode of Red Dwarf won an international Emmy is considered a fan favorite.
