S06E13 Aquiel

This week it was a twisty-turny-murder-mystery-who-dunnit-who's-even-actually-dead-or-a-real-person-or-a-dog?! MVP to the dog in this one - you knew I would freak out to see an adorable scruffy space dog 😂 Engage! 🖖

🖖Star Trek TNG S06E13 Full Length Reaction

Comments

The episode was very similar to the movie The “Thing”

Bobby Coolbreeze

I'd no recollection of this episode, it was okay. Good reaction though. "Nefarious goo." 😂

Jason Scade

Also... didn't Jen already react to "The Thing" remake? Feels like this episode is a homage to that.

Michael Jung

Hey, Jen likes space dogs! On a completely unrelated note, who else thinks she would like Star Trek: Enterprise?

Michael Jung

Not a favorite of mine. I can take it or leave it - I don't avoid it, but I don't look forward to it either. Geordi love stories kind of leave a bad taste in my mouth - I am not sure why. More good stuff coming though.

Damon Corrigan

shows like this are a little too easy to figure out. The second you see an out of place dog, you know what is going on. We are on season six. How many dogs have we seen. Warning Sirens Blaring.

TigerMyth

Interesting. I must have skipped this one in my rewatches. I don't remember it at all. That hasn't happened for any of the other episodes. Maybe I thought it was going to be another Geordi centric romance episode.

TigerMyth

While I still can’t follow the plot in this episode after watching it probably 10 times over the past 30 years, I always really like the mysterious understated piano riffs in the score. Also, I think it was well directed. The lighting on the station is a little less bright than on the enterprise, and colors seem to pop. I really like Aquiel’s outfit in 10 forward, although Geordi’s looks like a knockoff of a kids starfleet pajamas uniform. I needed a Worf scene where he gets insulted and angered by the other Klingon and knocks them out. Those are awesome.

Anthony Picard

Marina Sirtis (Troi) good acting in the next episode. Good story.

Clay F

Jen: "There seems to be alot of Nefarious Goo on this show" ROFL 🤣

Dean Zlist

No doubt about it, but Geordi falling in love with the "dead" woman whose murder he's investigating is all "Laura."

Lee

Of course it was the dog, this was basically like 'The Thing' and as we know it was the dog in that! :p

Stuart Biegala

geordi is a stalker lets be real, its an established character trait

rubberkidney

Ooof, this one is a tough sit for me. I guess the dog makes it a bit better 😆

Carlos Perez

In season 6, the show runners decided to start giving each named performer/character an episode or two to feature their talents and abilities (like they already had done with Picard and Worf). This was clearly a La Forge episode. The next one features Troi and it frequently makes it into the best episodes lists. Enjoy!

Edmund Dantes

"It was the daaawwg." - a common reaction. Since there are some parallels to The Thing here (never trust The Dog if its the lone survivor), this episode might have had a better rep' if the reveal was something more like that creature. It's a similar alien lifeform, what with the absorption and mimicry. The rest of the episode still had some problems, but a tentacled horror full of disjointed jaws and jagged teeth would definitely stand out at the climax. Instead, we got an oversized peanut.

Sykonee

Lt. Woof.

Mastervodo

With a thumbnail like that , a dog and Jen gushing over her this can't be anything but a good episode 🐕🖖 lady Jen's love for furbabies is heartwarming and magical

Ian

To boldy find treats where no treat was before!

Geoff S.

One of TNG’s worst episodes

Phil Ken Sebben

I like some of the mystery and the Klingon subplot. Yet, for me, this episode is ranked in the bottom half of S6 -- primarily because it a creepy Geordi episode, even worse than we he fell for and kissed the hologram in S3. Here, Geordi kissed and approach intimacy with an interested party in an official investigation. The episode had the abrupt ending -- bye bye dog. When asked in 1997 what he would have done differently on TNG, Ronald D. Moore said he wouldn't have written Aquiel.

Clay F

The next episode is one of my favorites of S6

Clay F

Great reaction to what i think is a really good episode.

jon bolton

part of me also feels like it owes some to "the thing"

William Rosmer

I've only seen this episode 2 or 3 times and I think its one of the most forgettable episodes of all TNG definitely in my bottom 10 episodes. On the other hand next week....one of my favorites!

Brett Whittaker

This one can be hard to follow. Here's a rough plot summary: Aquiel has been working on the relay station for months. Rocha has been killed/replaced by a coalescent organism right before he's transferred there. After being on the station for about 5 days, the coalescent organism needs to absorb someone else. It attacks Aquiel who manages to get a phaser and fend it off. Then she leaves on the shuttle, but the attack drained some of her memories, so she's out of it. The coalescent organism, left with no other option, absorbs Maura, the dog. The Klingon, Morag, shows up and finds the station empty. He steals some encrypted messages/codes and leaves. Since the relay station hasn't responded for a few days, the Enterprise is sent to check on them. The goo they find on the deck plate is some residue from the coalescent organism absorbing Maura or being hit with the phaser by Aquiel when she escapes. The Enterprise crew suspects she has died because her logs mention the tension with Rocha (actually a coalescent organism posing as him, which is probably why he's acting weird). They also suspect Morag because of the logs and Klingon DNA found on the station. While the investigation is going on, Aquiel and her shuttle are picked up by the Klingons. She has no memory of being attacked. This and the as then unidentified remains makes it seem like she murdered Rocha and is pretending not to remember to cover it up. The Enterprise crew find the phaser she used to fend off the coalescent organism in the shuttle further implicating her. When Dr. Crusher finally gets the DNA off the deck plate it reanimates and they theorize it's a coalescent organism. Given the timeline and Rocha being missing, this means that the coalescent organism arrived on the relay station in the form of Rocha, which started everything. Hope that helps!

All I can say if this episode is… WOOF!

timdoesphoto

This one owes a great deal to a classic 1944 film noir called "Laura."

Lee

I feel like this one probably gets a bad rap as another swing and miss Geordi romance but I rather enjoy it just for the murder mystery that it is. And the "get to know the character through her logs before bringing her back" story writing trick is kinda fun and well done. But I feel like I tend to grade eps higher than a lot of other folks so what do I know lol
