I saw this movie at around 11 y/o back then. It became one of favorites. When I was not going on my own shit with my friends duyring the summer vacations, I watched this movie at least once a week, maybe more. At 48 years old today it gets me more than it ever did. Another Will Wheaton film I know on the fly like that is Boy Soldiers with Seasn Astin. So Goonies meets Stand by me casting. Finally, what a legend River Phoenix would have been had he not died....

2024-08-04 22:49:05 +0000 UTCThat's hilarious that you went almost the whole movie before recognizing Wil Wheaton. I thought maybe you wouldn't pick up on it til you saw his name in the credits. But yeah, this one's a classic. And its so true, you never have friends like you do when you're that age. I had a tight pack of friends around the age of 13, rode our bikes and hung out nearly everyday in the summertime. Most of us stayed close through high school, but we went our separate ways and lost touch. I miss those guys. Last time I ran into one of them, it felt awkward and I wasn't sure what to say or how to act. Somebody who was practically your best friend for most of your childhood suddenly seeming like a loose acquaintance. It's a weird feeling. Life is weird.

2024-08-02 13:37:00 +0000 UTCOne of my favorites, though I always fast forward through the pie eating contest. Wonderfully nostalgic, great music, too bad Rob Reiner really did turn into a full blown liberal meathead. But I give him credit for making this masterpiece.
