The similarities are there Spock sensing the mind of Vger as Tam is sensing the Mind of Tin Man/Gumtu. And the outcome is similar as well. This is among my favorites of the TNG episodes because its really a pure essence of what Star Trek is, seeking out new life and new civilizations. Gumtu is a wounded soul who finds a kindred spirit in Tam and this is the story of many of us who are fans of the series who find our place in this story of the future. We find our friends and kindred spirits here. I thank you Jen for each new viewing which allows me to enjoy these episodes afresh.
