That fight scene has a point. It is trying to show how inherently resistant people are to ideas that shatter their worldview. The fight is so absurdly long because perhaps the greatest fight a person will ever put up in their lives is in the defense of their own sense of the world. This observation goes back at least to Plato when he wrote he Allegory of the Cave, so its fun to see that idea portrayed in an indulgent and schlocky denim fight scene that goes on and on my friends...
