Robin Hood: Men in Tights (1993) Full Length Reaction

Another Mel Brooks! The silliness is in high gear and I'm glad we watched Prince of Thieves before this one. I'm interested in Young Frankenstein and The Producers, what do you guys think?

Robin Hood: Men in Tights (1993) Full Length Reaction

Asneeze, the black guy they sat Robin down by in the jail at the first, is Isaac Hays, who wrote the theme for the movie Shaft. I'm sure you've heard it, but if you haven't, here it is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oDOH3ViMmCM If you want to see the best of Roger Rees (the Sheriff of Rottingham), you check out his appearances in The West Wing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6iEhCChKq_8 He was in 5 episodes. It was one of the greatest shows on TV. The music for the song Men in Tights is the same music they used for Jews in Space in History of the World. it's best to watch Brooks' movies in chronological order, as he tends to take jokes and music from movie to movie. Twerific is like Lili Von Stoop in Blazing Saddles. "The Chop" is what Atlanta Braves (baseball team) fans are famous for the chop trying to rally the team. You may have heard of Abbot and Constello, a comedy team in the 40s and 50s. That's what the Hey Abbot! was about. Costello was always getting in trouble and he'd say, "Hey Abbot! Oh, Abbot!" The Abbot is Dick Van Patten, best known for his role as patriarch Tom Bradford on the television series Eight Is Enough. . FUN FACT: The hangman was the same guy as Blazing Saddles, Robert Ridgely. The magic pill was a Life Saver mint. The line, "It's good to be da king!" is from History Of the World. Here's a short clip: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BGCjqzB2jPA&rco=1 I had not seen this one, so it was fun to watch with you. It was a fun movie, not not Mel's best. I see that History of the World is not on your list yet. You REALLY REALLY need to watch that one. My favorite part is the Spanish Inquisition.

NGL, Jen, for me... this is not one of Mel Brooks' best. I think one of the commenters here nailed it when they said mid-tier. Maybe I'm just not a comedy guy; it takes a LOT to make me laugh (Airplane!, Naked Gun, Spaceballs and Top Secret! are four awesome comedies off the top of my head) and a lot of comedy recommendations, even from friends that know me, fall flat with me. (loved your reaction to Spaceballs, BTW, and I loved that you put it in the same playlist for Star Wars)... In fact, credit where credit's due, your reaction to Little John being "saved" from drowning had me laughing harder than any part of the rest of the movie! ("That was close!") 🀣🀣🀣

The Producers and Young Frankenstein are a must for Mel Brooks fans! The Producers, while still pure Mel Brooks, is a more traditional (for lack of a better word) type of comedy, and is definitely from the 60’s, and is definitely worth watching. It has been mentioned by others that you don’t need more than a familiarity with the Frankenstein story to enjoy Young Frankenstein, but if you watch Frankenstein and The Bride of Frankenstein, both with Boris Karloff, you will get most of the satirical elements that you probably otherwise wouldn’t be aware of. Also, if you are a Hitchcock fan High Anxiety is worth a look. Another Brooks movie that I’ve always liked but doesn’t seem to get mentioned much is Silent Movie. I am not aware of any reactors who have done that one.
