Some other facts. 1) Wells wrote a sequel where Thomas Edison led a counter attack against Mars. 2) There was a 1943 movie version 3) Orson Welles on his radio show treated it as if it were real. Although he had disclaimers a lot of people thought it was real and it caused panic.

There's a more recent version with Liam Neeson. Personally, I would listen to that one after the original. There's nothing wrong with the recent one, but I think it's a more interesting experience if you're familiar with the original recording.
