Joker (2019) Full Length Reaction

The worst part of having a mental illness is people expect you to behave as if you don't.

So dark. This movie is the most tragic take on Joker and a really bleak look at mental illness. Like I said in my outro, it's hard to say you 'like' this movie, but I thought it was really interesting, and a juxtaposition of beautiful to look at visually while tough to watch. I'd like to see the sequel when it comes out later this year, anyone interested?

Joker (2019) Full Length Reaction

Comments

I forgot I had a copy of this in my archives, and I just saw Cinema Therapy on YT talk about this version of Joker, so I thought to see this full length with your commentary. Great dissection and honest reaction, as usual from you. I will point out though, that Batman absolutely goes out of his way to not kill anyone. Now, whether he accidentally kills anyone, I don't know but, according to lore, Batman is against killing any foe. He did however come very close to killing Joker when Joker horrifically killed the first Robin.

Amazing movie. One of the best viliain origin stories I have seen. Another good Phoenix movie, I would recommend, is "Her" from 2013.

Yeah it’s crazy well done.

As obviously insane as he is, the way it's presented you can empathize with him and understand how someone in his situation would react the way he did.

That was grim, powerful, sad and touching. Great reaction. 🃏💜 There will be lots of Taxi Driver (1976) recommendations, I'm sure. But I'm going to recommend a black comedy, 'The King of Comedy' (1982). It also has many striking similarities to Joker. Scorsese doesn't do comedies very often but when he does they are superb. 'After Hours' (1985) being the only other one I can think of from him. Both are massively rewatchable which improves your appreciation of them. A Joaquin Phoenix movie I'd recommend is 'You Were Never Really Here' (2017). Neo-noir crime psychological thriller. It's grim, gritty, realistic and moving. Joe (Phoenix) is a traumatized hired gun who specializes in rescuing trafficked girls, using brutal methods against their captors. Also another drama/thriller about a man on the edge, Falling Down (1993). It has a decent amount of votes on the request site. The lady who played Joker's mother is the matriarch character in HBO's Six Feet Under. The greatest dramady of all time (imo). It's about a dysfunctional family who own and run a funeral parlor in California.
