It's... complicated to think of this as a prequel to Red October. The book clearly was, and the book also dealt with the date as if it were after Red October's dates (as they match up to the calendar), and the movie has the same issue, too. But this is the book where Jack gets knighted, and as per American law, he was allowed to accept the title, but not any benefits of the title. (Truth in television, as several US military members after World War 2 among other people got knighted. From our law's perspective, it's entirely honorary. Though I think _Canadian_ citizens can get knighted, being part of the Commonwealth still.)
