Forrest Gump (1994) Full Length Reaction

"I don't know if we have a destiny, or if we're all just floatin' around accidental-like on a breeze, but I think maybe it's both."

This one was so epic! We follow Forrest through his entire life, set to a friggin stellar soundtrack + see him intersect with so many important moments in history. I laughed, I cried, I forgot I was watching Tom Hanks cause he was so great. Such a great movie!

Forrest Gump (1994) Full Length Reaction

Comments

I like your reaction including the outro. "Dear God, make me a bird. So I could fly far. Far far away from here." HIV meant death in 1982.

Someone mentioned in a comment that Lt. Dan's life is even more tragic when you consider that, since he thought he wouldn't be coming back from Vietnam, he probably never bothered to keep any savings in the bank or establish any close family ties or make any real friends -- so when he DID come back, there was really nothing to come back to.

Hey, Jen! I just read a little about Terry Fox, the Canadian runner you mention during Forrest's run across America. I know there was a 1983 movie made of Terry Fox's story -- do you think you'll react to that? I'd like to hear your take on it.

Tell me I’m wrong. This movie, thru Zemekis, the theme is based on Bob Dylan’s Blowin in the Wind. With the feather, beginning and end, and it’s the song Jenny sings on the stage, and all these events Forrest goes thru is by happenstance. We enjoyed your reaction.

I'm so conflicted about Jenny. She had so much of her own trauma to deal with and didn't know how to be loved, but because of that she kept taking Forrest for granted and only went back to him when she had nothing else and needed him. On one hand, I feel like she just used him as a backup when she needed him, but on the other I don't think she knew how to accept unconditional love.
