It’s a WW2 holocaust film, so it’s pretty heavy, but it’s based on the real life memoir of the main character, Władysław Szpilman (played by Adrien Brody). The film won 3 Oscars [best director (Polanski), best actor (Brody), and best screenplay (Ron Harwood)] and was nominated for 4 more (best picture, best cinematography, best costume design, and best editing). I think a lot of the brilliance of the movie comes from Polanski being a holocaust survivor himself, so a lot of the imagery comes straight from his own memories. Both of his parents were shipped off to camps, but he was able to flee and evaded the Nazis long enough until he could reunite with his father after the war, however, his mother died at Auschwitz. Also, yes, please watch Wolf of Wall Street, it’s amazing.
