πŸ––Star Trek TNG S01E11-14 Full Length Reaction

S01E11 Haven, S01E12 The Big Goodbye, S01E13 Datalore, S01E14 Angel One

Another quadruple episode drop! We're really powering through these eps! Only Datalore was voted in Patron's Top 10 for season 1 but you know me, I just enjoyed the ride + spending time with the crew. I heard that Angel One is considered a true stinker, but I was quite amused by the Riker bare chested moments πŸ˜‚ I think I may have nerded out even more than usual for these ones. Engage! πŸ––

πŸ––Star Trek TNG S01E11-14 Full Length Reaction

Things the utopian spacefuture lacks: 1. Pagers, by which the bridge crew might communicate essential and urgent information to each other across the ship and not be stuck away from all honor and dignity just for a lack of some basic 1990s technology. 2. A simple override command for the holodeck, like what we have for literally any computers made in the last 70 years, to let you shut down junk that's gone beyond all control. I mean in the worst case you can always just pull the wires

Jen, did you notice in "Datalore" Data answered Picard's final question by saying, "Yes, sir. I'M fine."? Hmmm...

Finally getting back around to watching more of these and don't disappoint! Welcome to the fandom :)

I thought Angel 1 is fine. Riker learned all night long and LaForge got some command experience.

These quad episode reactions are so good, really adoring these!

Oh man, I forgot about the Betazoid gift boxes! I've got a holographic TNG trading card with that guy(also played by John de Lancie). When I first started watching TNG I wasn't that keen initially on Lwaxana but she ended up having some really awesome episodes with some great character progression. Majel Barrett played her perfectly too.

The holodeck is basically 24th century PlayStation; so Picard (like the rest of us); likes to kick back and play video games when he has free time lol

I suspect that Wyatt's comment to Riker in the holodeck is a almost a bit of a low-key dig, accusing him of putting more care and energy in to his duties instead of Troi. "You go run your ship, Starfleet man, I'll be the one to romance the pretty lady." Between this and the talk of Riker's desire for his own captaincy I think we're supposed to infer that the relationship between he and Deanna ended so that Riker could focus on his career, moving from ship to ship as he's promoted up the ranks as need be without romantic entanglements to entice him to stay in one place possibly at a lower rank.

"To mend souls and heal broken hearts" Turns out the legends surrounding Haven were true after all.

As you noticed, they tend to not have the Picard and Riker both beam off the ship. That's a response to a lot of the joking criticism of the original series, where they would often have Kirk, Spock, sometimes Scotty, as well as McCoy all beam down to a planet. So basically, they'd have the captain, the first officer, the Chief Engineer (who was also 3rd in command), and the chief medical officer all leave the ship and be put in a dangerous situation, while leaving the ship with a lack of any of it's top 3 officers. Not really a smart move tactically, so they made a new rule where the captain stays on the ship and sends the first officer (or if the captain goes, the first officer stays). Very rarely do they break that rule (although I think a few times they have). Ah the holodeck. Don't worry, there are safeguards in place so that it is impossible for you to actually get seriously hurt in there. Those safety protocols are always in place, unless of course something goes wrong with the holodeck, but that almost never happens. That technology is as reliable as the transporters, which are never offline... ;-) For the record, Datalore did actually contain lore on Data, so I wasn't wrong about that. I just didn't want to spoil the existence of Lore. Someone else mentioned that the woman who played Troi's mom was Mrs. Roddenberry and that she was in the original series, but they didn't mention who she played. She was both "Number One" in the original pilot (that got turned into the two parter "The Menagerie" and Nurse Chapel . There was a blooper reel made and one of the things on it was another implied meaning to Wesley saying to his mom, regarding Data and Lore, that "I heard you know how to turn them on." Indeed... ;-) One more amusing thing. In Datalore Picard practically kicked Wesley off the bridge (technically, he just threatened to, but it was close to actually doing it), but then later tells him to go to the bridge and tell them everything is fine. However, Picard doesn't send anyone else with him and doesn't contact the bridge himself, so how would the bridge crew know that Wesley wasn't just showing up and lying about being allowed back on the bridge?

Lwaxana Troi will grow on you, I promise. She gets better and better as the series goes on. :)
