Rocky (1976) Full Length Reaction

"Yo, Adrian! It's me, Rocky."

Oh my goodness, I had no idea this movie would be so sweet! I thought Rocky would be a tough guy-- I mean obviously he's tough but he's a big softie at heart! He loves Adrian, he loves animals, he just wants to go the distance. I really loved the character and Stallone in this! ♡♡♡ Shall we watch Rocky 2?

Rocky (1976) Full Length Reaction

Comments

I grew up watching boxing starting in the early 70s and through the 80s. As a kid, I was fascinated by Muhammad Ali boxing. Then, as a young adult, I was stunned by Mike Tyson boxing.

The shy girl in the pet shop, too shy to speak, ends up saying "I Love You" in front of the world. Great to watch this classic with Jen.

Rich Campbell

the story about the dog is that, the dog from the movie was stallone real dog, but before he sold the rights to the movie, he was so poor so he had to sold it (reluctantly), but when he got the first money from the contract for the movie he went to buy it back.

Christian Gerardo Garcia

Carl Weathers played for 2 years with the BC Lions in the early 70's

You should also check out 'Cobra' or 'Lock Up' or 'Tango & Cash'

The main singer of that street corner singers is Frank Stallone Jr, he also appeared in 'Staying Alive', the person taking care of the bell in the fight is Stallone's father, Frank Sr.

There is a bad ass obscure no one reviews Stallone flick called Nighthawks from 1981 with Billy Dee Williams & Rutger Hauer from Blade Runner...

Great stuff! 🥥🥥 Would love to see the rest of the Rockys! 💜 (Except 5). :P But 2, 3, 4 and 6 are fab. At the start of Rocky, his first prize fight win of $40 in 1976 dollars is roughly $216 in 2023. Chump change "winnings". :/ The actor who played Rocky's trainer, Burgess Meredith, is in a much-loved 1980s mythological action/adventure film called 'Clash of the Titans' (1981). It's already on your request site. 🦉👍

Bright Angel, Miss Jen, your sympathy and understanding of both Rocky's and Adrian's love story. The shy, timid Adrain and the gentle, soft-hearted, lonely Rock were meant to be together to become one love and life. Their Love was the real Championship.

Clifton Owens

Duke, Apollo's trainer, is my favorite supporting character here. First when he's the only one who seems to take Rocky seriously. And then that line in the fight alone: "He doesn't know it's a damn show! He thinks it's a damn fight!" Tony Burton kills it with that small role.

Joe Concepts

I consider myself "well watched" movie fan. I'm not sure I've watching in one sitting all the way thru. Thanks for this. A classic.

If you want a rather amusing buddy cop type of film with Stallone, check out "Tango and Cash." It's Stallone teamed up with...Kurt Russell! Two cops who are as different as night and day who are forced into teaming up due to a frame up. It's not the highest quality movie, but it's an 80s action film...with Stallone and Russell together!

Chris Biebel

OF COURSE(!) continue with the series lol

Another fun watch-along with you! Rocky was written by Sylvester himself. He negotiated hard with the studio that had wanted to buy it from him, but they wanted to use a different actor for his character. They even offered him $256,000 for the script. He refused the offer until they eventually agreed to his requirement that he also play Rocky. The studio felt he was a big risk as an unestablished actor, so they paid him significantly less. The dog "Butkus" in the film was also his real-life dog. The street doo-wop group singing "Take you back" was led by Sylvester's real life brother Frank. You also saw Talia Shire (Adrian) your “The Godfather (1972)” reaction video. You also saw Carl Weathers (Apollo) in your “Predator (1987)” reaction video. Joe Spinell, who played the lone-shark Gazzo, is also in a movie I hope you’ll watch someday, The Godfather II (1974). That scene with Rocky and Adrian kissing for the first time is one I’ve struggled with. I get that she was shy, fearful of the unknown, and people’s treatment of her, but she didn’t give initial consent. Thankfully she welcomed it immediately after, but man… it’s a tough scene. Rocky is very much a love story and a metaphor for pushing yourself to keep moving forward in a down and out hard life. Not giving up. It just so happens to have boxing it in to help illustrate it. I love this film. Rocky turns out to be a light in a foggy world. He just needed his own guidance. Thanks, Mick. I feel like Rocky danced around Paulie’s request to talk to Gazzo for him because he probably knew that Paulie would be too good at his job and hurt people. Something Rocky didn’t like doing outside the ring. Yes, this film took place around Thanksgiving and so that’s why I recommended it for November. You said you already had your Thanksgiving, so I hope you had a happy one! On that note, Rocky II (1979) is also a good one for December. Also, R.I.P. Burt Young (Paulie), Burgess Meredith (Mickey) and Joe Spinell (Gazzo).

This was such a fun reaction! It's been years since I watched this and it still makes me happy.

Wade Wallenstein

RIP Burt Young

Yo Jen, you too can go the distance too. Round 2, 3, 4. Round 5 will be tough but you can make it! Rocky Balboa will be worth making it to. Creed has his own story to tell, so you might wanna get in the ring again with him as well. Cassie and Carly never regretted going the distance and I don't think you will too!

Death Lego

Can't wait to watch your reaction to this after work ofc I know you're enjoy the music and love Adrian for sure , agree with the other comments you truly should watch the others 👌

Ian

I very much doubt anybody will mind if you saw the whole series of these and the spin-off.

Martin Nicholls

Yo, Jen, you did it! Great reaction to a classic.

David Murray

All of the Rocky movies are excellent with one notable exception, but you should definitely watch them all Jen, you'll love them.

Eric Denney

Yes, you must watch Rocky 2... and 3, and 4, and 5, and 6, and then Creed, and Creed 2!

David Crabtree

Yes, on Rocky 2 thru 4.

Allen Bond

Uh, 2, 3, 4, 5, Rocky Balboa, Creed, Creed 2, and Creed 3, please and thank you :)

Barry Hammock

I was 15 when Rocky came out and saw right away that it was a love story, made in the style of the great boxing movies from the 40s and the 50s. Cinderella man and the Fighter are other great modern boxing movies too

zynjams

*Fist pump* Can't wait to watch this. And yes, you have to watch Rocky 2. For me, it was as good as the first. Sometimes I actually like it better.

Raven Dark

Stallone always says Rocky is not a sports film, it's a love story with some boxing. 😄 Of course you should watch Rocky 2! You might as well pencil the rest of the Rocky and Creed movies into your react schedule now. Once you step into the ring you can't back out! 🥊😏

Tom Evans

i think you are contractually obligated now to watch at least until 4.

rubberkidney

Celeste McAllister
