πŸ––Star Trek: The Original Series S01E04 The Naked Time Full Length Reaction

I heard this ep directly relates to the TNG episode Naked Now that I watched right afterwards! I don't mind dipping back to see our beloved crew again (if I have time in schedule) so let me know if we should check out any more TOS eps πŸ––
*Sorry, I didn't really do much of an intro or an outro on this one

Hey Jen, although you picked some great episodes for TOS to watch, I've been thinking that you mostly missed out on what could be considered a "typical" TOS episode. Basically, the Enterprise visits a planet, said planet is hiding a dark secret, and the Enterprise crew must survive that dark secret, through their ingenuity and ethics. And for me, personally, the best example of that would be s1's "A Taste of Armageddon". A very fun, thought-provoking episode. If you ever revisit TOS again, I'd love to see you watch that one.

They went back in time because of the high speed.

I hope that you'll continue your Trek reactions with the other series! It's crazy that some of the best Trek we're getting right now is Lower Decks, the animated series that's currently in Season 4. The writers are some serious Trek fans, they even reference this very episode, just like TNG did!

The blond that was next to Kirk at the end was Yeoman Rand, played by Grace Lee Whitney. She was the one I pointed out in Star Trek VI who was on the bridge of the USS Excelsior with Captain Sulu. At that point, she was Commander Rand, having obviously received numerous promotions by that time... ;-)

I'd a balls out, naked good time. (not literally)

This episode occurred early in the first season, and it served as an acting exercise for all the performers. By showing the characters with their inner selves "hanging out", as it were, the actors were able to get a much stronger sense of who they were and how they were motivated. If you look again at some of the episodes you've already seen, you'll notice a *lot* of character traits that they developed in this episode. See, e.g., "Amok Time" -- Spock, Chapel, Sulu. It also gave the *audience* an opportunity to know the characters early on, which probably helped with our empathy for them. I strongly suspect that "The Naked Now" -- which occurred at roughly the same point in the first season of ST:TNG, was made for exactly the same reason, and had the same benefits.

I adore this episode. A classic ST-type sci-fi problem to solve combined with top tier vintage dramatic TOS acting and I am so goddamn here for it.
