🖖Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country (1991) Full Length Reaction

This ship and her history will shortly become the care of another crew. To them and their posterity will we commit our future. They will continue the voyages we have begun, and journey to all the undiscovered countries, boldly going where no man, where no one, has gone before.

🖖It's farewell to our crew 😥 I loved this one so much!! Can't believe it's over but I am really looking forward to TNG!!!

🖖Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country (1991) Full Length Reaction

Comments

Jen you are an ideal reactor, producers, writers and actors would love your going with the flow and being so genuine. There are some episodes of TOS I think you needed to see, TOS being one of my less favorites, still Operation Aniliate, A Taste of Armageddon, and the Aquire of Gothos are ones that are important

Strange New Worlds. Ugh. Not the worst Star Trek but easily the most disappointing. We were so excited when we heard they were going back to The Cage we bought a brand new huge tv and 4k player for it. And none of us liked it. What the hell are they thinking? The only episode I have liked so far features Kirk and the security woman going back in time on Earth. The rest are mostly awful, despite the inflated ratings on IMDB. Wasted opportunity. I doubt I will trust new Trek ever again.

I didn't really like this movie that much when I first viewed it but each time since then I have liked it more and more. In fact, I would only rank it behind TMP Director's Cut and Wrath of Khan. And seeing that Trek films on 4k is a real treat. I even bought Final Frontier in hopes it would make it much better. Nah. But I really enjoy Jen's Star Trek. I hope to get around to watching more of her TNG reactions. I'm not the biggest fan of TNG. I watched the entire series on blu ray (they did a fantastic job on those) and it never really captivated me the way I hoped. And the movies were a letdown. Even First Contact, which is easily the best of them, only reinforces my opinion most of TNG actors suffered badly on the big screen. I hope she goes back and reacts to more TOS episodes. Those I would love to see.

Yes, i loved watching your edited reaction to my favourite ST movie about a year ago. Time to see the full version.

I'm late to this reaction, but I have a bit of trivia for you. I haven't seen anyone else mention this dialogue in the trial scene where General Chang screamed at Captain Kirk "Don't wait for the translation! Answer me now!". That is a homage to a similar exchange that took place between the US and Russian Ambassadors during the Cuban missile crisis. Though the US Ambassador Stevenson is not screaming like General Chang, he makes an interesting declaration at the end. Here is a YouTube clip if interested: https://youtu.be/yGm0Jz1ZweE?si=kS8UFNHfpR0FCqkJ I was having problems accessing the link in the comment, so I also replied with the link.

Fanchman

I think his mom was the casting director for this movie too!

Michael Jung

Christian Slater is a huge Star Trek fan and was more than happy to just have that small cameo in the movie.

DarthChef

I laughed so hard at your "his space balls!" comment. 🤣🤣🤣

Guess Who’s Coming To Dinner… why not… but the original Tracy - Hepburn films… must sees! (especially Adam’s Rib)

Jeff Preiss

Not sure which version but the runtime was 1:49:58

Jen M

What version is this? I rented it but the times and scenes are way off. The version Jen is watching has different scenes than what I rented. Is this a director's cut or something?

The quote regarding the "Undiscovered Country" in Shakespeare's Hamlet is actually a reference to death, not the future: "The undiscovered country, from whose bourn No traveller returns, puzzles the will," It's part of the speech that starts with "To be or not to be!, that is the question." Some things here are actually tied in to TNG. The Klingon who represents Kirk in the trial is actually played by one of the TNG actors, Michael Dorn (this movie came out after, I think, TNG's 4th season), and is supposed to be the grandfather of that actor's character (Worf). Also, Kitomer, where the conference takes place, has a role in Worf's history (I'm not going to spoil how) and that was known by the time this movie came out, so that was definitely a nod to TNG. I never understood the talk at the beginning of the movie about how if they made peace with the Klingons, they wouldn't need Star Fleet as a military presence, since there were still the Romulans, plus likely a few other races that weren't friendly at that time (and definitely others that were hostile in the future).

Chris Biebel

That was such a fab Trek journey. Looking forward to TNG and eventually TNG movies. Make it so. 💜

If we watch Spock pat Kirk on the shoulder as they leave the bridge to transport over to the Klingon ship we can see him surreptitiously place the patch on his shoulder that Kirk later mentions on Rura Penthe. It's visible for a second as he turns to get on the turbolift. The two crewmen that are found dead, the actual assassin, are the two that are bad-mouthing the Klingons in the transporter room after everyone leaves. In hindsight Valeris telling them to get back to work is probably her way of telling them to stop drawing attention to themselves.

At least the hills are being quiet in this one 😄

Colin 3of5

I was about to tear up with you at the end, BUT its most definitely NOT the end!!! You will see a sprinkling of the original cast again we just won’t tell you when haha

Brett Whittaker

the original crew def show up as guest stars in tng from time to time.

rubberkidney

Since you are starting to watch TNG episodes, does that mean you will eventually watch the TNG movies as well?

Richard Higgs

Had the distinct honor of seeing this on opening night in 1991 at age 21. Was so deeply satisfied with the movie as a whole, especially following the - ahem - experience of #5. I have to confess that while I enjoyed it immensely, I didn't have the emotional reaction of watching along with this reaction video at that young age. For the first time, at age 53, I got misty-eyed upon the finale scenes tonight, especially after having met 90% of the original bridge crew in my former line of work (video game production). This journey back into Trek with your videos has been a real treat. Can't wait to venture on into the TNG era and beyond.

I saw this comment regarding the Enterprise posted on another video and thought it would be a nice share... "That A isn’t just for show. It’s a promise. A promise that the Enterprise won’t ever really be gone. She’ll live on, and keep serving as the bastion of hope and exploration, even if she has to go away now and then. She’ll still be here. In our hearts. New letters, new hulls, new crews, and new captains come and go, but the Enterprise will be the same stubborn old cruiser who gets her job done."

Bammer

I saw this in the theater, and my girlfriend and I were a bit iffy about it, after having seen the previous movie in the theater and not enjoying that one. But I was hooked from the opening credits to the tears I cried at the end credits. This was so amazingly well done, and I have watched it more times than I can count.

Vwlss Nvwls

This was a fitting end for the original crew. The events of this film and the "Khitomer Accords" that arose from the peace conference are a historic event in The Next Generation. Events of this film in some way tied the TOS and TNG together. Trivia: This film came out during the run of The Next Generation and a number of the sets were re-dressed TNG sets. The president's office and the dining hall on the Enterprise were both sets from TNG.

John

The Klingon quoting all kinds of stuff is legendary Canadian actor Christopher Plummer

JPDotCom23

The klingon who was the defending attourney for Kirk is played by Michael Dorn who plays Worf, the klingon crew in Start Trek Next Generation. In Canon, that's Worf's grandfather.

Reed James

Great reaction! FYI, Star Trek: The Next Generation takes place roughly 71 years after Star Trek 6.

David Crabtree

I can tell you're watching an old transfer of the film, as the scenes through the snow and ice in your version is still pinkish in color, while the recent rescan into 4K has much better color timing and it doesn't have the dreadful dynamic noise removal that they added in the original Blu-ray release of the movie. 😋

Chrissonator

The Defense attorney on Kronos for Kirk and McCoy is Michael Dorn, supposedly a distant relative of Worf, who was part of the 'Next Generation' crew.

JPDotCom23

Once again I strongly recommend this be the last Star Trek Movie before you see TNG. As I commented on the Star Trek V post, The movies after 6 focuses on The Next Generation characters. That being said, this was the first Star Trek movie I saw in theaters, and it's one of my favorites.

Comicfan86

I'm so happy you got to this movie. Second best of the series.

Rayna & Mike Sitter

Can’t tell you how excited I was to see this reaction pop up! Gene Roddenberry passed away on October 24th, 1991. They did such a wonderful job with this plot and it was a great send off for this crew. Little trivia: Chancellor Gorkon is played by the late David Warner who also played the Terran Representative in the previous film!

Wade Wallenstein

Christopher Plummer is great as Chang.

Patrick

This is the one I was waiting for the most! A great sendoff to the original crew and truly they last time they were all together! The directors cut of this movie adds a bit more and is definitely worth seeing!

RJ MacReady

Gotta get through some TNG episodes first.

PapaXan

Haven't seen this in years. I'll synch up tonight. Jen, you're the hardest working movie watcher on YT.

Michael Tuffin

Generations and then FIRST CONTACT!! 🖖 . You've really been knocking out franchises! Awesome job! 🤓

Carlos Perez

Older I’ve gotten, this has become my favorite of the Star Trek movies! Now a long, long wait for Strange New Worlds!!

Chief

Let's fuckin' gooooo!
