πŸ––Star Trek III: The Search for Spock (1984) Full Length Reaction

I choose the danger!

Ok thank goodnesssssss! I dunno what I would've done if our boy wasn't ok!! Though it was a rescue of Spock, Kirk was really the star of this one. I love how wise he is, and how much the crew trusts and respects him. They'd go to the end of the Universe with Kirk and so would I! The only lingering question I have now is (no spoilers) -- what about the Enterprise!?!

πŸ––Star Trek III: The Search for Spock (1984) Full Length Reaction

Comments

I hadn't watched this movie in 40 years until this rewatch (that I enjoyed). I like the movie. I think I like the Kirstie Alley Saatvik better. Though, this Saatvik is good too. As a kid in the 1970s, I had a model of the Enterprise and a model of a Klingon warbird both hanging from my bedroom ceiling. I am glad you may complete the latest Star Trek trilogy [Chris Pine] - slick and entertaining.

Clay F

I hear the Night Court theme whenever I hear him speak.

Ortizmo

Now that you've seen the TOS episode Amok Time, as well as ST:III, you know the lore and meaning of Pon Farr. Yup, Spock and Saavik got it on.

John

Yes movies from other regions may have a different speed. Try adjusting the playback speed of your movie or my reaction to get a closer sync!

Jen M

This was my first watch along… I had to keep pausing to let your movie catch up. Do Australian dvds play faster !? Lol

Brett Delbridge

You're right. The music in that scene is epic! (Too bad Jen doesn't pay any attention to the music in these films, eh?) πŸ˜‚

John Courtright

"Just imagine they couldn't get out and that's the end of the movie" πŸ˜‚ The moment the Enterprise clears the docking doors has my favorite music cue in all of Star Trek. Maybe even all time, I get goosebumps and tears every time. 😍

It was fun watching this one again with you Jen. Spock is such a critical character, they HAD to find a way to bring him back! It was very clever how they tied young Spock's rapid growth to the accelerated growth of the planet. And how about the part where Saavik helps young Spock through his first Pon Farr, performing a sensuous ritual with her hands on his which begins to calm him down. I can imaging young Spock thinking, "I don't know who you are, or what you just said to me, but that thing you're doing with your hands, ... don't stop!" Lol

John Courtright

Actually, I do believe it was Leonard Nimoy's voice for the turbolift.

Bammer

On the Excelsior: Turbo Lift: β€œLevel please” Scotty: β€œUp your shaft!” The voice for β€˜level please’ was Leonard Nimoy’s πŸ––πŸ˜ (Once you know, you can recognize Nimoy’s voice 😊)

David Olden

Loved the reaction! This was the introduction of Spacedock as well as the Excelsior and Oberth class (Grissom) ships. This also showed us a new class of Klingon ship and Christopher Lloyd did a masterful job as Kruge. Can't wait to see your reaction to The Voyage Home!

Wade Wallenstein

Also, the Klingon Maltz was played by John Larroquette.

John

Spocktacular! πŸ’œπŸ–– Very excited for Trek IV to finish the story arc. What a crazy planet they go to! πŸ€ͺ 18:40 (ish) Yes, the Klingons know about Genesis now. 😭 Let's hope they don't find out about Peter Gabriel.

Jason Scade

Lol it's the same with cars. I have no eye for detail of vehicles of any kind really

Jen M

I still remember the feeling of shock watching the broken ship burning up as it entered the atmosphere. Up to that moment, I had still been assuming the wreck would be towed back and repaired. Nope.

Thomas Yanez

Jen, I'm not sure if you saw any of the TOS episodes where the used the self destruct system, but it had been used a couple of times in dire situations to break a stalemate, but it was always aborted. Kirk says in one episode during the countdown that from 10 seconds to 0 there's nothing that can stop the destruct sequence. When they filmed this everyone knew it would be aborted, like in TOS but then the moment we hear the computer on the bridge when the Klingons are on board, it's counting.... "9 seconds..." and everyone was in shock because we knew it couldn't be stopped. One of the greatest deaths in space science fiction history was the fall of the Enterprise.

John

Yup we will be seeing her again.

RJ MacReady

Near the beginning of the film, as the battle-damaged Enterprise is pulling into space dock, we see a redheaded woman watching them pull in from a cafeteria in the space dock. That redhead is Grace Lee Whitney (a.k.a. Crewman Janice Rand) appearing as a "command division officer".

Andrew Skow

As much as I love Jen and her total immersion into the Star Trek universe, and I am always amazed at her attention to the tiniest detail of the soundtracks, it is highly amusing how she somehow can't seem to see the physical differences in the shapes of the Federation ships, both here and in "Wrath of Khan".

Thomas Yanez

Let's get 'The Right Stuff' on a poll..

Celeste McAllister

"Great Scott!"

Lee Pitman

Surprisingly easy accepting Doc Brown (Christopher Loyd) being reincarnated as a Klingon.β™‘

Celeste McAllister

The U.S.S. Grissom was named after astronaut Gus Grissom, who was killed when the Apollo 1 spacecraft caught fire on January 27, 1967, during a launch simulation test. The fire also killed astronauts Edward White II and Roger B. Chaffee.

Lee Pitman

Hey I enjoyed you reaction and can't wait for your reaction to 4 but unfortunately the enterprise is destroy

Oliver Horsley

I think Uhura ordering me into a closet by gunpoint is my new kink. This i think is when the Klingons started to become great villains. Not quite up there with the Duras sisters and Chang but still great.

Patrick

Absolutely πŸ’― I’d love to see Jen react to Field of Dreams! Horner’s music helps make my eyes wet on every viewing! (Another fun James Horner-scored film is The Rocketeer)

David Olden

Off topic: Since you are so fond of James Horner's music, please react to "Field of Dreams". A wonderful movie with a perfect score by Horner.

John Bresnahan

And a double dumb-ass on you!

PapaXan

In the universe of the original cast movies, the next one is the most silly fun. The fifth is the worst ever. And the sixth is on par with Wrath of Khan... in my opinion. In Wrath of Khan, Spock did a Vulcan mind meld with Bones and said "remember", right before walking into the radiated room that killed him. This was added after test audiences wished for some hope that Spock could return in future movies.

Vwlss Nvwls

Let's Vulcan gooooooo! πŸ––

Jim Frykman

Yeeeeeees! So soon after TWOK! Awesome!

Bammer

Looking forward with great anticipation to First Contact!

Jim Frykman

C'mon man, spoilers! Jesus Christ. Jen hasn't seen Into Darkness or Beyond yet. She only watched the 2009 film before coming back to watch the orginal Trek.

David Crabtree

you are now officially a trekkie. i never knew star trek movies were sing alongs!

rubberkidney
