Wow I think I am a huge huge huge Coen brothers fan. This movie was beautiful and thoughtful and terrifying and philosophical. Anton is certainly a legendary character, but I also loved Tommy Lee Jones, Josh Brolin and Woody in this. This one really made me think and I definitely want to watch it again in future, maybe after reading the book and reading some more about the meaning behind the movie. Very curious to hear your thoughts on it!

Jen I read that the title comes from William Butler Yeat’s poem that starts “Sailing to Byzantium that is no country for old men”. The poem is about an old man as he nears death, and he wonders what it might be like in the afterlife; which is what Tommy Lee Jones’s character represents.

2023-07-30 06:12:47 +0000 UTCOne of the best films ever made, I think. I read the book after and was surprised to see how close the adaptation is. Many scenes, most notably the gas station coin flip with Anton, are talken almost word for word from Cormac McCarthy's novel.
