Goldeneye (1995) Full Length Reaction

Comments

I loved the reaction!! Such enthusiasm in all movie, but especially Bond! Learned quite a bit rewatching it, like recognizing Tcheky Karyo (Defense Minister Mishkin) who seemed to be in ALL the movies back in the mid 90s and also Minnie Driver as the singing Russian Cowgirl! ๐Ÿคฃ

Great Bond movie definitely my top 5 Jen, did you pick up on that, Onatopp was played by Framke Janssen who played Jean Gray from Xmen movies.

subbed from here on out, was waiting for you to hit goldeneye and onwards. so excited, great action btw. Also.. the soundtrack during the archive chase.. which is also used later on at the dish scene, is my all time favorite 'chase-scene music' of the entire series.

Lifehouse

One of the greats - a great cold opening, one of THE BEST theme songs, a fantastic villain, and Brosnan did an amazing job on his debut of being a great all-rounder. The charm, the quips, the suave, the killer - he does them all really well, and for those of us (me included) for whom he was the first we knew, he couldn't have done a better job of getting a whole new generation into the franchise. The tank chase is ridiculously good, and Brosnan's batting average across his whole stint is pretty great to be honest, though sadly skewed by Die Another Day which is *hilariously* bad, but the rest of his entries are good to great and all worth watching for the experience. It's also worth noting that Martin Campbell also directed Craig's first entry, Casino Royale, which is another celebrated entry in the canon (for me it's Russia With Love > Casino Royale > Goldeneye). Man clearly had a knack for it

Tim Christensen

This was so much fun to watch Jen! You could not contain yourself. Lol. And we get another one this week. Bond is the gift that keeps on giving.

richard burns

Oh my gosh your enthusiasm at the start was awesome! So giddy and infectious. Ha ha and the way you yanked off your "tux" after Xenia topped that poor Admiral XD Great fun reaction Jen!!

I love how Jack Wade CIA is played by the same actor who played the villain in The Living Daylights.

Yes, M is the codename for the head of MI6 in the James Bond novels. The interesting bit is that, in real life, the original head of MI6 was a man named Mansfield Smith-Cumming, who always signed his documents with the letter C in green ink. Since then, the head of MI6 has always been referred to as C. When Ian Fleming wrote the James Bond novels, his fictional head of MI6 simply used Mansfield Smith-Cumming's first initial instead.... Also, the name Goldeneye was chosen as the title of this movie because it was the name of Ian Fleming's villa in Jamaica where he wrote the novels. After World War 2, Fleming got a job managing foreign correspondents for a newspaper group. During that time, he had a villa constructed in Jamaica. He named the villa Goldeneye. Each year, he'd go there for vacation and write another James Bond novel. (Interesting side note: the Goldeneye villa is only about 15 miles up the coast from the beach where Ursula Andress walked out of the sea in a bikini and became a movie star in Dr. No.)

This is the movie that introduced me to Bond as a kid. And as an American boy there was nothing cooler than Pierce Brosnan in GoldanEye! Now, that I am much older I realize that the individual bonds really represent the zeitgeist of the time so while I can appreciate the impact of the older movies they never resonated like these going forward. The nice thing about them was as I matured the James Bond portrayal matured with it in a way that really spoke to me. But... this will always have a special place in my heart because it was my introduction. Well, that and playing GoldanEye couch coop with my friends was literally the best thing ever!!
