12 Monkeys (1995) Full Length Reaction

Wouldn't it be great if I was crazy?

You guyssss, I loved this one! It was crazy and trippy and so freaking cool! Bruce Willis was questioning everything as much as I was, Brad Pitt stole every scene he was in, the music was unexpected and awesome and I had NO idea what was real and what wasn't. It was so good! Should we check out more future, dystopia, time travel, virus, reality-bending movies?

12 Monkeys (1995) Full Length Reaction

I probably already told you this on YouTube at the time, all the DieHards are fun enough if you're into it, but some are better than others. DieHard 2 was kind of thought of as a shitty follow up to the first at the time, but some of you younger folk on YouTube seem to like it. I'd skip it! You definitely have to see the third one, Die Hard with a Vengeance! Don't worry, you won't be missing out on anything important by not seeing the second one. It's the only must see beyond the first, and is just as good, if not better. I think it's probably better, and it's the only one that's really related story wise to the first. The fourth has some good elements, but also gets kind of cheesey. The fifth is pretty cheesey, but again, if you're a big enough fan, they're all still fun enough.

First, congratulations on figuring out the main point of the movie about 15 minutes before the end. One reactor who recently watched it didn't even think the kid was Cole, missing the whole point of the movie. I read an interview with the actor who played the cop who shot him at the end. It turns out that this was the first time that a Bruce Willis character died on film and the guy was kind of proud that he was the first guy to kill Bruce Willis. BTW, you probably missed a funny coincidental reference to another Bruce Willis movie. When he killed the guy in the old theater, he said, "All I see are dead people" which is similar to what the kid said in The Sixth Sense, which came out 4 years later. Terry Gilliam is well known for being extremely detail oriented. There's actually a scene in the beginning when Cole is coming back from the outside where at the bottom on the right there's a hamster that is supposed to be running a wheel (suggesting that it's being powered by the hamster running). They kept having to reshoot it because they couldn't get the hamster to run in the wheel while they were filming. Brad Pitt was nominated for an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for this role, and he won the Golden Glob for Best Supporting Actor. It's arguably his best work. For other movies, as others have said, try Brazil (might want to research which version, the director's cut is very different and more trippy). The movie scene in the theater is from Vertigo (which you should check out). The movie this was based on (La Jatte) was a still frame movie (basically a slide show with narration, which makes changing languages easy, since you just have someone else read the translation of the original script). A hilariously trippy movie for you that I recently saw someone react to that would be right up your alley is Mars Attacks. It's a Tim Burton film with a huge all star cast.

It's on iPlayer if you're in the UK

There's a great, but probably fairly unknown, movie that is very cleverly done and would mess with your head. It's called Triangle and came out in 2009. Contagion and Outbreak are great virus movies.

Yes dystopian movies!!!! There's so many good ones but i'll try to keep it brief (which, when movies are concern, its very difficult for me πŸ˜†) -The Running Man -Judge Dredd -Escape from New York -Escape from LA -They Live -X-Men: Days of Future Past (although you'd have to watch the X-men films to eventually get there). Now, if you want Bruce Willis and Brad Pitt suggestions, thats a while other list πŸ˜†. Keep up the great work!

Carlos Perez

My votes for dystopian movies are The Book of Eli and Children of Men.

As always, enjoyed the reaction. Hiiiighly recommend Contagion for a virus movie Jen.

Of course best / worst awards are for fun but I must disagree with your worst going to the virus, that's like blaming the gun for killing Bruce Willis lol. Note only should the worst go to that lab dude for releasing the virus but considering that he succeeded in killing billions of people he might be the worst worst of all time lol. Also you were really on the ball with catching most everything. Many reactors don't realize the "vision" is actually his memory as a kid until the end and some not even then but you nailed it before the end. I myself never noticed the lady at the end was one of the scientists from the future until I read it in a comment later.

Andrew Roach

Seeing your logo I must say, sorry dude.

Great react Jen!! Haven’t seen this in a while and I forgot how much I liked it!! If you liked this, I think you’d really like Children of Men.

MattN

If's black, you fight back. If it's brown, you lie down (play dead). And if it's white, you're f-ed. That's how you deal with bears. Just back away slowly, don't run, and don't get between a mama bear and her cubs, otherwise she will mess you up.

Reed James

It is as good as the original.

The Fisher King is one of my favorite Robin William dramas.

Reed James

Hi Jen , I would recommend Die Hard 3 instead of 2.

If you're looking for more reality-bending, twisty, wonderfully crazy movies, look no further than more of director Terry Gilliam. That was his forte'. In fact, he has another insane comedy about time travel called "Time Bandits", written by himself and Monty Python's Michael Palin. Some other good movies of his with bizarre characters and storylines are: "Brazil" (1985) "The Adventures of Baron Munchausan" (1988) "The Fisher King" (1991) "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" (1998) "The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus" (2009)
