Agreed. There's no direct option for this, but imho the most authentic way is always to watch the movies in order of release, because they're all reacting to and influencing each other in different ways.

2023-04-20 23:08:27 +0000 UTCSuper conflicted about this question as I am *so excited* for you to get to the Craigs (I was in my early teens when Brosnan took over, but Craig is my favourite if I'm honest) - but several people have made the excellent point that Austin Powers satirises everything from Brosnan back, so it does make sense to watch those before going on. The Craig Bonds also largely have an over-arching plotline unlike the others, so it also makes sense to park Bond after you've done the Brosnans, rather than watch a Craig or two and then take a break. Seriously though, I'm setting my alarm for your Youtube Premiere of Casino Royale!

2023-04-19 23:14:35 +0000 UTCI would for sure watch "Our Man Flint" as well as at least one Matt Helm film to get the most from Austin Powers. "The Wrecking Crew" would be my choice as it is one of the best in the series and features Sharon Tate which would aid your enjoyment of Tarantino's "Once Upon A Time In Hollywood" when you get to it.
2023-04-19 22:25:33 +0000 UTCIt also occurs to me you may or may not want to watch the Matt Helm, Derek Flint, and Dr Goldfoot spy movies before Austin Powers. They're not as necessary as the James Bond movies but they also are referenced across the Austin Powers trilogy.

2023-04-19 20:20:26 +0000 UTCI’d definitely watch the first Austin Powers. I’m indifferent to the full trilogy. I wouldn’t worry about order that much: jumping back and forth between them seems fine. I watch all your vids, so I’m a captive audience to your decision. 😄

2023-04-19 19:35:13 +0000 UTCHonestly I don't think the Austin Powers movies references anything past the Roger Moore era. The bulk of the references are from the Connery era films.

2023-04-19 19:27:38 +0000 UTCAustin Powers had a pretty big influence on the direction that Bond films took after Brosnan, so watching before Craig makes sense.

2023-04-19 19:21:38 +0000 UTCWait for the Henry Cavill Bond movies. Just kidding. 😁 There is talk of him possibly being the next Bond.

2023-04-19 19:18:59 +0000 UTCAlso recommend "What's Up Tiger Lily?" (1966). A Japanese spy film with dubbed over American voices performing an entirely different plot.

2023-04-19 18:59:55 +0000 UTCI really like the first AP, it's a love letter to the movies and TV Mike Myers used to watch with his dad, but clever enough that you can watch it without knowing the references. Of course knowing old Bond gives you a genius bonus. Definitely do this before Craig, because this is what made it impossible for Bond to be camp any more, and why they went in a completely different direction with Craig. And one of these days check out Our Man Flint, the OG takeoff of Bond - it's a big influence on Austin Powers, and you would love it.

2023-04-19 18:46:31 +0000 UTCDefinitely recommend Austin Powers sooner rather than later. The reason is because Austin Powers is stuffed with old Bond references, and the longer you wait the more likely you'll miss those!
