Blade Runner 2049 (2017) Full Length Reaction

Dying for the right cause. It's the most human thing we can do.

Wow that was intense. Beautiful to look at, super visceral music, a mystery that kept me guessing and a deeper look at what makes us human. I really enjoyed both Blade Runners so much. Will there be more?

⭐ Special thanks to Producers: MattN, Todd Preble, Incognito, John Walters, JT, Noby, SwimintheRain, John Gray, Randy Aiken, Barry Hammock, Celeste McAllister, Nick Corning, OrangeLion, Philip Mercier, Paul  Zawicki, Jeb Manning, Thomas Amann, Cool Beans, Gary Smith, Kevin Whitted, richard burns, Ian Hunter, Sock Puppet + those who wish to remain uncredited :)

Blade Runner 2049 (2017) Full Length Reaction

Definitely watch Gattaca ;)

The ad didn't know he is Joe, the ad and the holo girl (Joi) named her owners Joe. So, the name was not that special, what he learned at this moment. As ad said, she will say everything you want to hear. He wanted to have a name.

Gattaca?

Gattace is one of my favorite films. Bladerunner 2049 is also one of my favorites. If there's one issue I have with the 2049 it's that the climactic battle in the sea occurred during the night. The replicant battle in the sea and emerging out of the water is great symbology for life's evolution from the sea. But it's so dark! And a thought in the back of my mind becomes distracting--how films save money on computer effects by setting them during the night because that's when it's easier to hide poorly quality computer effects.

You can see why I've been going on about you seeing this :) Glad you chose to watch both movies! The director Denis Villeneuve and Hans Zimmer teamed up on Dune as well. The movie also doesn't resolve the question about Deckard, which is perfect. Yes, Wallace hints at Deckard being "designed" - but is he just trying to get inside his head, or not? K (or Joe) has his "Roy Batty" moment at the end (doing a selfless act, being more human than human). We even get strains of the "Tears in Rain" theme. Such a good film, and a worthy sequel. One of the films I can watch over and over and learn/think about more each time. Also if you're interested, as part of the promotion for the film the studio asked three directors to make three short films set in the same universe. One tells a story about Sapper Morton just before the events of this movie. Another shows how Wallace was able to "revivify" the replicant concept after Tyrell was shut down. The last is an anime short that shows what happened when the older replicants rebelled, causing the Blackout. They're all on youtube, and really cool to watch.

One of my all time fav movies. Really looking forward to this

Jen, great reaction! Thank you! Btw, if you haven't checked them out yet, there are 3 short-subject videos that were released prior to the movie that fill in the time between 2019 and 2049: * Black Out 2022 * 2036: Nexus Dawn * 2048: Nowhere to Run If you search on YT for "blade runner 2049 shorts" you should find them. Warner Bros. has them on their channel. I think these will answer some of your questions. Maybe we can get a reaction for these as well? They are pretty short. The BR2019 score was by the great Vangelis. Pls be on the look out for the knockoff by The New American Orchestra which was released shortly after the movie. Vangelis didn't release his score until 2008. The Vangelis one is way better -- musically and sonically. Gattaca: Yes, please! It's one of my favorite movies!

Ron

definitely second the nice guys and drive. I really love both of those

MattN

It seems highly unlikely that Deckard is a replicant, because Rachael was specially designed by Tyrell, and that is why she was able to reproduce. So Deckard would have to be human in order to provide the seed to reproduce.

Ryan gosling?! gotta watch Drive, The Nice Guys, Crazy Stupid Love, La La Land!

Chris

If you love Ryan Gossling you should check out "The Gray Man" on Netflix.
