The Man with the Golden Gun (1974) Full Length Reaction

I didn't recognize you with your clothes on.

Sumo wedgies, Weekend-at-Bernie-ing a Bond girl, slide whistles, golden gun fetishes + the return of Sgt Pepper -- this is the wackiest Bond I've seen so far!! Really looking forward to The Spy Who Loved Me next, I've heard it's great! :)

⭐ Special thanks to Producers: MattN, Todd Preble, Incognito, John Walters, JT, Noby, SwimintheRain, John Gray, Randy Aiken, Barry Hammock, Celeste McAllister, Nick Corning, OrangeLion, Sonny Smith, Philip Mercier, Paul  Zawicki, Jeb Manning, + those who wish to remain uncredited :)

The Man with the Golden Gun (1974) Full Length Reaction

Comments

Good Night got her turn in the end

Butt Head

“Push it with your arse if it’s faster” - Jen (Jan 2023). This has to be one of the best in-the-moment comments in any reaction…ever. Just WOW. As an Englishman I have to say your “British” accent is terrible 😂, I love it, please never stop, your Bond reactions just wouldn’t be the same without it. They should do an official release with your commentary as an audio track, a bit like the director’s commentary, but way more fun.

James Hadden

Jen, I think you're really gonna like The Spy Who Loved Me. I have a fondness for this movie that goes above and beyond it being a good fun movie -- it was the *first* Bond movie I ever saw in a theater! I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!

Ron

I’m surprised you liked this one so much, it’s one of the more goofy films in the series. The next one is as campy but they finally get Moore’s Bond perfected and you will def get your fill of gadgets.

Will

You will not be disappointed by TSWLM! Crazy stunts right from the jump, great gadgets, and Roger really hits his stride as Bond. Live and Let Die was very well received by audiences, but Golden Gun had a more lukewarm reception. Producers Albert Broccoli and Harry Saltzman split after Golden Gun when Saltzman sold his shares to MGM. With the future of Bond showing signs of uncertainy, Broccoli and Moore needed to deliver with TSWLM. Can't wait to hear Miss JennyPenny's thoughts on if they success in their mission.

David Miller

Oh yes, you are right!

Jen M

The only bond where there was a lair competition going. And possibly that ended in a draw. Could you start a lair score?

Arjan

Still loving the reactions.

Joeking

Far be it for me to disagree with you, Jen. But you have seen a boat do that before in Thunderball, when the boat separated at the end and became a hydrofoil.

Joeking

You may recognize Scaramanga as Count Dooku from the Star Wars prequels and Saruman from the LOTR films. Christopher Lee is most famous for playing Dracula and setting the look and manners the vampire has had ever since in films. The fact you caught how he slept in the bed was funny because I think he was actually trying to look like Dracula in that scene!

Jenny Penny another fabulous Bond review. You're right about Roger Moores version of Bond, it tends to get a little hokey at times and the slide whistle was unnecessary. Leave it to you to spot the one brief second where there were STACKS & STACKS in the scene lol. Your action movie instincts kicked in when you knew Goodnight was going to get in some sort of trouble. I laughed so hard when you basically said in a roundabout way " scene 24, Goodnight backs ass into button" too too funny. Oh you do love your lairs, can't wait for The Spy Who Loved Me......it's 10pm here in cali and i`m off to hit the Black Bear Diner for some breakfast yaaaaaaaaaaaay........Oh and with all due respect I bet you have a fabulous abdomen : ) #TeamJen

Christopher Lee was great as Scaramanga, you may also know him from Lord of the Rings and the Star Wars prequels. And the car jump was tremendous if you can ignore the slide whistle. Composer John Berry did later regret including it. But Sheriff Pepper looking at cars at an American dealership in Bangkok where he chose to go for his vacation – what? Can’t wait for the Spy Who Loved Me!

Paul M

The movie definitely could have done without the inclusion of Sheriff J.W. Pepper and the slide whistle. There was literally no reason to have either one.

Dustin Denner

Thank you as always Jen for continuing your Bond journey, excellent work You wasn’t far wrong when you stated that all villains sleep with their arms crossed, well In Christopher Lee’s case that’s a very true observation as he is world famous for portraying Count Dracula in many Hammer Horror movies.

Great review...love me some Roger Moore..Bond would have ended without him. Here is a 1973 teaser trailer for the movie that shows a deleted scene that implies Scaramanga cheats.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FIyeTHcYOlY

Regarding the "car plane", here's a quote from behind-the-scenes: "The actual machine was not airworthy and could only make a 500-metre (1,640 ft) flight, so a meter-long (39 inch) remote controlled scale model built by John Stears was used for the film's aerial sequences."

Thomas Yanez

So, Jen, what do you like more - lairs? Or lairs blowing up?

Thomas Yanez

Not every Bond movie is "good," but they're all fun, and I think this one is one of the most fun. I'm interested in seeing your tier list too. Fun Fact: You can visit that island and rock formation from the movie. It's in Thailand, and they offer boat tours out to the island. I got to see it myself on a family vacation a while back.

I have a soft spot for this movie. While obviously not the best Bond film I still have a ton of fun watching it. I don’t need a deep and serious spy movie. I’m perfectly happy watching a fun action movie that doesn’t take itself too seriously. Christopher Lee was also a fantastic villain and while I wish he was in one of the best Bond movies I still had a blast watching him. I’m so excited to see you get to The Spy Who Loved Me. It’s honestly my favorite Bond film.

Adam Grunther

Not a fan of the Roger Moore Bond. Except for "The Spy Who Loved Me", most of the Moore Bonds are an embarrassment to the franchise. I tried to watch "Live and Let Die" with Jen, but after about a third of the way in, I gave up. I'll just have to wait this out until Jen gets to "The Living Daylights" Not great, but not awful.

Patrick Reynolds

You'll enjoy the next few. The Spy Who Loved me is great.
