That was excellent drama. I hadn't seen this before, enjoyed watching with you. Looking forward to continuing it. There is a UK crime-drama trilogy of films I'd highly recommend that has a similar feel to Chernobyl. Incredibly grounded, gritty, and real. It is known as The Red Riding Trilogy. Red Riding: 1974 (2009) with a fantastic performance by Andrew Garfield (Spidey) Red Riding: 1980 (2009) Red Riding: 1983 (2009) Overview from Wikipedia; The events take place between 1974 and 1983 and have as their background the Yorkshire Ripper killings. Set in Leeds, Bradford, Halifax, and the rest of West Yorkshire, both the books and films follow several recurring fictional characters through a bleak and violent world of police corruption and organised crime. The novels and television versions blend elements of fact, fiction, and conspiracy theory into a confection dubbed "Yorkshire Noir" by some critics. They offer a chronologically fractured narrative and do not present neat resolutions. I thought this Rotten Tomatoes quote on the 1st film sums it up well ; Beautifully directed by Jarrold, 'Red Riding: 1974' is a haunting and frightening portrait of a man willing to find the answers at all costs, that approaches Zodiac in its quality.

I have been meaning to get this on DVD. You gave me the perfect excuse, and it just arrived. I'm only able to get this on Max with commercials; can't watch a creator react if I have to keep pausing you!

Sunday morning. After just finishing A Handmaids Tale S4. 😩 I really need a lighter show after that. (Shuffles through the folder.) As there isn't anything light in here. This show was as fascinating, educational and compelling as it was infuriating the first time around. Play... Oh yeah I remember HBO.... Adjust the playback speed to compensate for the added frame rate difference. (Yes this does work very successfully for those having similar troubles.) I learnt about this disaster in school in the 90's, but certainly not in this detail. I also remember we read Z for Zachariah. Not relevant, but it just came to me thinking about where else I've picked up other facts about radiation exposure from. Sci-fi and other shows being another. So I knew some the horrors that were about to follow...

The gist of the story is true. Where facts and data can be used explicitly in a dramatic setting you see them. Most of the main reactor operators, politicians, and our main scientist (Legasov), were represented well, even down to their looks and their roles. As was stated, for the sake of storytelling, some liberties were taken.

This show is a hard, but necessary watch. It is well-made enough that I think it'll answer basically all your questions by the end, I think we all come away with a little more knowledge about nuclear reactions as well!

I would say the series is about 80% to 90% accurate. There isn’t much that is flat out wrong; a few major characters in the show are composites of multiple people to help keep things simpler for the audience. The timeline on a few events are altered to help make the show flow better and obviously a lot of the dialogue is conjecture but as a whole they did a remarkably good job keeping it true to life.

This is a great show and your reaction was superb Jen. Chernobyl has been described as being extremely historically accurate. Almost every event that happens in the miniseries actually happened in real life. Although some events have been altered for dramatic purposes, the key details are correct. A lot of the show's source material and characters come from the book Voices of Chernobyl by Svetlana Alexievich. I can't wait for the next reaction.
