The Fifth Element (1997) Full Length Reaction

Bzzzzz!

This was such a fun one! Great chemistry between a very handsome Bruce and a lovely Mila and a great cast all around. The most unexpected surprise was Chris Tucker who absolutely stole every scene he was in! 🤣 Loved it 👍👍

⭐ Special thanks to Producers: MattN, Todd Preble, CBonius, Tyler Gorash, Ed Dunn, Incognito, John Walters, + those who wish to remain uncredited :)

The Fifth Element (1997) Full Length Reaction

Comments

Milla Jovovich is great in the Resident Evil movies as well.

The fifth element is love :-)

Oh that would be cool to go see that!!

Jen M

I understand that some theatres will start showing the movie again next month, in honor of the movie's 25th anniversary.

John Walters

Thanks Eric! 👍

A couple things: 1 - Nothing about Chris Tucker's performance was "low key" 2 - The next Bruce Willis movie I'd recommend would be "Lucky Number Slevin". Maybe not the best Bruce Willis performance (not his best part) but his best movie, IMO. (The Sixth Sense is pretty great too - I think Slevin is better, better written/better dialogue, more fun, funnier, it holds up to multiple watches in a way Sixth Sense doesn't... but Sixth Sense is definitely a movie worth watching at some point.) 3 - AFAIK this was the movie that kinda launched Milla Jovovich's movie career; maybe her best known role is as what's-her-face in the Resident Evil movies. Her husband is a director who makes pretty generic action flicks and she's been in a ton of them - in addition to RE: Ultraviolet and Monster Hunter. Probably a few more. He made a pretty good movie in Event Horizon - which she isn't in - though; I don't think he was quite able to get it right, translate his idea into the movie he wanted it to be, but he got close enough that I can see it and enjoy the movie for what he's trying to do, and the parts he gets right, even though it's a flawed movie. 4 - Willis is also in "The Whole Nine Yards" with Chandler, which is a pretty funny movie. Not really all that original, but it's an enjoyable movie that doesn't think it's anything more than what it is: essentially an odd couple with Die Hard and Chandler from Friends.

Oh yes, the best kind of cheese! I didn't know that song is unsingable, that's so interesting!!! 👍👍

Jen M

Had such a fun time watching this movie back in the day, and was a blast watching it with you today! The Diva song was actually written to be "unsingable" by humans, so there's some technowizardry happening behind the scenes to make it work. A few extremely talented singers on youtube have attempted it, and some of them sound pretty damn close! Maybe it's like Everest, where one day someone will actually do it. As mentioned above, this is definitely a cheesy movie, but it's the delicious kind of cheese. Thanks for giving it a try!

OH I'd REALLY like to see him play Churchill, that'd be super interesting 👍 Yes I agree, this movie could have been all style but the cast really elevated it and made it something special!

Jen M

That £1 was one of the best purchases I've ever made and a right old steel. I actually can't think of another movie like this honestly. I'll have to give that some further thought.... 🤔 Not so much like it. But that have their own strong vision. Three that just came to mind are.. •District 9 •Ready Player One •Chappie There could have been a real risk of this being another one of those style over substance movies. Where 'the vision' gets in the way of itself, with it having such an iconic look. But this film totally avoided that pitfall. With brilliant casting across the board. An engaging story and plenty of balanced humour. Léon will get a vote from me. Another brilliant Gary Oldman performance. Taking about transformations for the role. Darkest Hour where he plays Churchill is quite something too.

Daryl

Yeah, she knows it's a multi-pass!

Eric

Thanks!! Chris Tucker was so good, can't imagine the character by anyone else! 😆

Jen M

Funny thing, the Chris Tucker part was written for the music star PRINCE, but he turned it down. Tucker surely made it his own. Great reaction, Jen!

Mr. Writhms

Thanks! I agree, my heart is always warmed when true love saves the day 🥰

Jen M

Very cool! Léon is very highly requested so it'll have to go on a poll soon 👍

Jen M

A kiss to save the world <3 As ridiculous and crazy as this movie is, I really do love how it's "Love" that saves the day. The true power of the human spirit ... we are capable of love. Might sound cheesy, but it fills my heart with joy. Great reaction, as always!

The Inedible Mattman!

Post-reaction comment, lot of fun - glad you enjoyed it! Luc Besson is indeed French and his most famous movie (outside of France) is probably Léon: The Professional (which is also Nathalie Portman's first movie). Other notable movies (especially from his early career) are The Big Blue, Nikita & Joan of Arc. More recently he did Lucy with Scarlett Johansson. He likes to use the same crew and cast for his movies so you see the same actors appear (like Gary Oldman is in Léon, the guy who plays Léon (Jean Reno) is in The Big Blue, Mila Jovovich plays Joan of Arc, etc.). Same for his music - it's composed/arranged by his long time friend Eric Serra and if you watch more you'll definitely notice his particular style.

Auto-wash.

This is one of my favorite movies. I recently moved and had to get a new license plate and the number now starts with "BZZ" and whenever I look at it I immediately think of this movie and Chris Tucker (and then spend the next 5 minutes doing the bzz sound and cracking myself up).

Alexis

Mulit-Pass!
