The Shawshank Redemption (1994) Full Length Reaction

Some birds aren't mean to be caged.

What a beautiful movie! Anchored by the poetic narration, this movie really made me feel such a wide range of emotions. I laughed, I cried, I was surprised, tense and moved. I totally understand the hype, this is an all-time great movie 👍

The Shawshank Redemption (1994) Full Length Reaction

Comments

I enjoyed your reaction. This ranks as my No. 3 favorite movie of all time (after GF and GF2). One of the best endings of all time. We watched Ally McBeal when it aired.

You are very good at figuring things out before they happened . Brook's death is still hard for me to watch

About not doing crimes, there's a great deal of countries where they'd put me in jail or just kill me for being gay and transgender. Or even here in Sweden if I was born ten years earlier I'd be lobotomized and locked up for life for being autistic. Meanwhile you've got people like Nestle's shareholders getting away with profiting from child slavery by putting the legal responsibility for doing it on the right people in the right place. So I don't attach a lot of moral value to following laws Makes it less complicated to sympathize with the convicts, I think.

Thanks Daryl! I agree, I do not often find myself so heartwarmed that I have happy tears, and you are right they are all the more powerful because of everything that happened before! This was an awesome surprise to end a beautiful film :) I haven't seen About Time!

My day off today and now felt like the right time for this diamond classic masterpiece of cinema. This one specifically reminded me why you have earned your place in my top 3 three reactors. To Instinctively know what, when and how much to say throughout is a real balance that not all achieve with such effortlessly majestic consistency. With you all the way during this one. What more does one need to say about this film. The proof is in the watching. There are loads of films to make you cry. Plenty of competent film makers have made motion pictures full of sad, tragic, bittersweet and melancholy qualities to have us reaching for a tissue or two. But I feel there are fewer films that can genuinely evoke that unique feeling when you reach for your chest and place your hand over your heart. So full of that overwhelming physical imperative for happy tears. But we also can't deny, that one doesn't feel as intense without the other. Those happy tears are fuelled by all that bleak reality, injustice and tragedy that proceeded them. Because films make me think of films. Not really connected so much. But have you seen • About Time (2013)

Daryl

Lol I was looking forward to watching it!

Jen M

I really did love it! I didn't know it was in the Oscar year with those films, that was a pretty stacked year!

Jen M

Oh, boy. Saying I'm looking forward to your reaction is a weird thing to admit to for this film.

Not hyperbole, this is one of the best movies ever made. I saw it in theaters when it came out and knew, despite it being one of the most beautiful stories ever told, that it had no chance of winning the Oscar over Forrest Gump or Pulp Fiction, but I think it's stood the test of time over FG and it's proven to be just as important a movie as PF. This movie will be discussed in future generations. Not shocking that the Academy snubbed it, as they tend to do with most timeless classics. As many times as I've watched it, I'm still right there with you. Tears of sadness and tears of joy. It strikes so purely and poetically without sacrificing honesty. Really glad you liked it as much as you did. Not that there was ever any doubt.

Such a masterpiece! I was really blown away by it

Time to get busy watchin and get busy cryin. Hard to believe that this was a box office bomb when it first came out. In that it failed to recoup its budget by over 10 million. But it found the love that it holds today in the rental market. Probably regarded as one of the best films ever made. Cementing Morgan Freeman as one of the kings of narration with his iconic voice and delivery. I'm a bit behind with my reaction watching across the board. But I might skip most of that to watch you watch this masterpiece.
