The Mandalorian 1x4 Full Length Reaction

This was a really cool ep! It felt much more epic and like a movie to me. Of course I loved every moment "baby Yoda" was onscreen, but we also had some tender moments with Mando! Really looking forward to the next ep 👍👍

Thank you to all of you for hanging out and watching with me!

⭐ Special thanks to Producers: Ronny Boss, Todd Preble, CBonius, MattN, Tyler Gorash, Ed Dunn, Incognito

Thanks for this insight Jonathan! I'm SO glad they went with a physical model for Baby Yoda, that was absolutely the right call. Thank goodness. I wondered if that was Ron Howard's daughter! Very cool. I liked her style a lot

There can never be enough Baby Yoda gushing; he might be the only thing with 100% approval rating in Star Wars. What makes him work is being a beautifully made physical model, with a very skilled team puppet in him. His ears and eyes are super expressive, and the model can move shockingly well. Everyone on the set fell in love with him. Funny story: the production team wasn’t sure whether to go with a real model or rely on CGI. Actor Werner Herzog (who played the imperial client that went Mando on the retrieval job to begin with), heard them debating this on set and called Favreau A COWARD for thinking about CGI, daring them to go physical model. This made their minds up and here we are. I gotta talk about the director, Bryce Dallas Howard, daughter of Ron Howard. This episodic format allows a variety of different directors to helm various episodes, so we get some different flavors across the season, all with a big budget to actually do cool stuff. Thanks to solid leadership by the executive producers (Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni), they all jive very well. Here, we got to see the AT-ST shot in a very different way than when we last saw it in ROTJ. When some cuddly Ewoks were able to take out a few, it loses its scariness; however, Howard shot it with red lit cockpit windows like eyes, and had it clomp through the dark forest like a living breathing monster. Funny enough, Howard was an actress in JURASSIC PARK, so the style is an nod to her background there. She also shoots action pretty well, and really captured the feel of the village. Every director is gonna get to show something distinctive. Here marks the middle part of the story, when they’re on the run, one adopted orphan taking care of another.
