Good action in this one, some good Kaylee/Wash/Jayne one-liners, an unexpected hookup and loss for Mal and an ending I hope isn't true! This was a great all around penultimate episode and really curious to see the final episode next time.

Add in that "finale" episodes (both season and series) are a relatively new occurrence for TV watchers. For the vast majority of years a series just stopped when the show was cancelled. No wrap ups. No explanations. It just wasn't on anymore.

2024-08-15 19:16:01 +0000 UTCIt is amusing how every "Firefly" reactor falls into the same pattern where they can't let go of the idea that the last episode (11th episode aired since episodes #11, #12 and #13 were not even aired in the original U.S. run) is a "finale" episode that will somehow wrap things up, no matter how many times people comment during the run that the show was unexpectedly canceled in the middle of the season. Back then, shows ran 22+ episodes and they had not even gotten to the point of WRITING any wrap-up episodes, much less a "finale", when they were cancelled.

Not sure these sad episodes were the best medicine now she's felt well enough. 🙁 Still enjoyment from y'all even if marked by some real sad moments in both episodes. When Inara said she was leaving, I had that disappoint in full proper stereo surround sound! 😲 Four beautiful ladies heartbroken. Just the final episode and Serenity left. 😫

2022-02-12 14:49:25 +0000 UTCI suspect at least part of the subtext between Mal and Inara is that they both feel the need to remain closed off and not become emotionally invested in people for the sake of their jobs. The discussion while Mal was being tortured in War Stories about how he doesn't like shipboard romances because they complicate and split loyalties, Inara's reference to the "complicated" Companion policies on dating to Kaylee in Ariel. Of course you're also spot on about the fear, they both just saw how hurtful it is to become attached to someone then have them taken away by the type of life they lead. The gun Petaline used to kill Rance was one of Nandy's gold pistols. I suspect they'll do just fine🙂 The acting in this series is so great, the way Inara's face hardens when Nandy is killed is just heartbreaking. If you ever rewatch it it's definitely worth keep an eye on everyone's faces in particular. The characters in the background especially are often just as rewarding to watch as whatever is happening front and centre in the scene. Just one left, then the movie. Getting down to the wire 😰😮😆
