Die Hard (1988) Full Length Reaction

🏆Winner of 'An 80's Christmas' Poll!🏆

John McClane is kicking ass, writing names on his arm + doing it all barefoot! I had a lot of fun watching this one-- great action, a good villain + lots of explosions!

Although not a traditional Christmas movie, there was enough of a Holiday vibe that it felt like the perfect time to watch it + I'm glad it won the poll!

Thanks for watching along with me + stick around to the end of the video for some accidental footage I shot (turned the cam on without knowing lol) of Bos + I decorating my room! :)

Die Hard (1988) Full Length Reaction

Comments

I was a young adult when this movie was released. “Yippee-Ki-Yay, Motherf***er!” instantly became an iconic phrase.

Yes I'd love to see more John McClane 👍👍

Ok so as I am sure others have said definitely continue with the sequels. Die Hard 2 is great and Die Hard With A Vengeance is about as fun as the first film. Live Free Or Die Hard has gotten some love over the years and its definitely not as bad as you might hear about. But unfortunately you can stop after that because A Good Day To Die Hard is just not good at all. Can't wait to see you back with McClane for Die Hard 2.

Oh I can't imagine Bruce not being seen as an action star, that's crazy! Will have to check out that Netflix ep, thanks! Yes I definitely want to see the 2nd and 3rd 👍

Jen M

Tonights pick was this absolute classic! Yeah I'd already watched it in December as I always do. (Actually twice last year) Still fantastic each and every time. This Set the marker for Bruce's film career direction. Before this film, it was laughable to the Hollywood types for Bruce to be top bill of an action movie. With the right people pushing for it, history was made. There's a great episode of the Netflix show "The Movies that made us" all about the making of Die Hard. (S1E04) Which found very informative. I'd advocate for reactions the 2nd and 3th at some point. 👍🏻

I know there are some people who think it is. I'm not one of them because there really isn't any kind of redemption arc. In "Die Hard", it was Al who could finally find it within himself to draw his gun to save people. Also, John introduced Holly with the last name, "Gennero", while Holly corrected him and said, "McClane". The two moved towards acceptance of each other's views and feelings. Also, in "Die Hard 2" there's just too much plot armor and bending of physics for me to like it as much as the original. Don't get me wrong. It's a good action movie. And I like it. It just doesn't make it into my list of "Favorite Action Movies".

Ya I really like how he's a normal guy in this crazy situation! I will definitely watch the sequel! Is it also considered a Christmas movie?

Jen M

Great reaction, Jen! This movie and the sequel, "Die Hard 2 Die Harder" has John McClane as an everyman thrust into extraordinary situations. Beginning with "Die Hard With a Vengence", the character starts becoming more of an "action hero" and does things accordingly.

Miles E Coburn

Oh awesome!! Ok I will add those to the list 👍

Jen M

Nice! Ok cool, that would be fun :) Are they also Christmassy?

Jen M

Omg his feet!!

Jen M

Hahah, "his bloody feet!" :-)

Thanks Matt! So happy you enjoyed. I hadn't thought about the character being a normal guy with issues as a first in an action movie, that's a cool point. Agree about Hans Gruber, even the name is a great villain name lol! 👍

Jen M

Glad you enjoyed! Do you recommend the sequels?

Jen M

Awesome reaction Jen! This is a really fun movie and a pretty big action movie. It really was a turning point for action hero movies because John McClain was a normal guy. Up until this point the normal action hero was your Schwarzeneggers, or Stallones or Norrises... basically superheroes. But, with John McClain you have a normal person with issues and problems and faults. Plus, imo one of the greats with Hans Gruber. He is definitely on my top ten favorite movie villain! I am with you on all of the MVPs and definitely agree with Baldielox on it being fun watching someone experiencing Die Hard for the first time! Great reaction! I really enjoyed it!

MattN

Glad to hear it :)

Jen M

Oh good! :)

Jen M

Woohoo!!! This will be my post work treat for tomorrow!

Oh man, I have been waiting for this one!
