####### EPISODE SPOILER REVIEW BELOW! APPARENTLY SOME OF YOU ARE WATCHING FOR THE FIRST TIME ALONG SIDE ME, SO PLEASE DON'T READ BEYOND THIS POINT UNTIL YOU HAVE SEEN THE EPISODE YOURSELF! ######

------

Hi guys!  Solidiest of Side-Quests this week!  A very creepy, quiet horror episode, with a terrifying ending! XD (those eyes, tho...)

Very interesting to hear how Buffy has changed since what happened  to Calender, and will be interesting to see she moves on from here.  We definitely needed a Side-Quest like this after all the chaos lately.

Love you, guys!! Be sure to leave your reviews of this episode below!

Have a great weekend!!

As always, if you click the link shortly after this post goes live, you may need to download it to watch.  This should be fixed in an hour or so!

Buffy Fridays! Season 2 Episode 18 First Time Reaction!

Comments

YES!!! Danielle! I completely agree! It is the insecurities inside Kanji's psyche that become real! I swear, I could write a dissertation on why I love Kanji's backstory! XD

VEGGIE GAMER

The Normies are a group, yes. They're on Season 3. The fact tahat they're a group does lead to some chatter that can exclude the audience. However, I still enjoy them because there's always someone who will react to something while they're watching. So the viewing reaction is well worth it (to me) because there is always someone who will catch something of interest to me. And they're likeable. I do enjoy Thor's reaction, though. :)

Frederique Gillespie

Sorry!! I wish I knew Persona 4 to comment on it, it sounds cool!!!

Giorgia M

Came to the comments excited to see people's perspective on your persona 4 comment but i guess the venn diagram of Buffy fans/P4 fans and Veggie watchers doesn't have as much overlap in the middle as I expected. So I will chip in with my own views (keeping it as spoiler free as possible for those who want to play the game). I would very much agree with your perspective on Kanji’s storyline. It always annoyed me how much hate Kanji’s ‘inner self’ gets because people see it as a perpetuation of a harmful stereotype about a particular group of people. Whereas to me that’s exactly the point as from Kanji’s perspective he has very little knowledge of that community outside of harmful/generic stereotypes he’s been exposed to the point where he has internalised it as prejudice that he's tried to repress for fear of being different hence it coming out in his ‘inner self’. Sorry if that was too long. Thank you for another great Buffy reaction. As you guessed this is one I tend to skip on a rewatch just because the slow tension doesn’t have the same impact for me without the element of surprise but great to see it from a new perspective. Looking forward to watching more with you as you go along.

My favourite U2 song is Beautiful Day. And I love this episode, very creepy!

Garry (Not Jerry)

I'm watching with Thor Reacts! I think the Normies are a group, correct? I've seen their work, but I prefer solo reactors because the chatter is towards the audience and more focused, where groups tend to veer into converssation until you're missing half the show, LOL. Same with collaborations. :) I simply prefer the solo reactors. Though with Thor being on Season 4 and Veggie on Season 2, I have to be *very* careful about my comments!

RavenLord

Yay. I'm excited to have finally caught up with the episodes now. This is one of my absolute favourite side quest episodes. I think because it is so different, and the pacing is slow and creepy. Plus that villain always sticks in my mind for how horrifying it looks. Love it. Looking forward to seeing your reactions to the rest of the season and beyond.

SapientButterfly

Thor Reacts or The Normies? lol I'm a little addicted to watching people fall in love with this show. I love Thor's thoughtful reactions and the group dynamics of The Normies make are really interesting.

Frederique Gillespie

This episode is one of my guilty pleasures actually, so I don't skip it lol... But I don't watch it for the bigger story so much, I just watch it for the fun. And yes, I've definitely done the intro drumming with you on occasion--not always, but sometimes I just can't resist.

Hello from Alaska again! I've watched Buffy in entirety about 6 times (the original release viewing and then about 5 subsequent re-watches),then once more with [a different] reactor, and currently am watching *two* more times with you and another reactor. So there are definitely some episodes I would usually skip if I'm watching on my own or with a reactor who isn't in my Top Tier of 3. This is one of those episodes I would normally skip now. However, you *are* in my Top Tier of 3 reactors, so naturally, I did watch it with you as you always bring the fun and "newness" back into episodes I've already seen multiple times, LOL. Just for the record, there is no particular order for my top 3 favorite reactors, simply 3 reactors with whom I gain the most enjoyment and entertainment out of watching shows "with" them, and you're definitely on that list. I love hearing your opinions and speculations (and it's soooo hard not to comment on some, but I would give up my computer before I would ever intentionally spoil anything for you), and as much as you apologize for rabbiting on (do Brits still use that phrase?), that's another part of your reactions that I thoroughly enjoy. You have a unique, fresh perspective on life, and Buffy, and your enthusiasm for both is contagious. The only other comments I have are: I don't do the big-arm movements with you on the intro because I've heard the intro too many times, but it's fun to watch you do it anyway. Buffy absolutely feels guilty over Calendar's death, not only for the unresolved situation between them, but also because *if* she had killed Angel that first time she had a chance, Jenny wouldn't be dead, or that student Theresa, or all the other people Angel has hurt or killed. Lastly, when I hear the title Killed by Death, I instantly think of the Motorhead song with that title. :) Would you ever consider doing reactions to Britcoms? Either your favorites or ones you haven't yet seen? I *love* Britcoms, as well as English period dramas, and it's been impossible to find reactors for them, at least any reactors whom I enjoy.

RavenLord

Oh yes, it’s not great. I don’t speak German, but I know the diction from singing it, and that is a VERY Southern California way of reading German.

Tommy Ross

First, A+ meme choice. Second, this one sneaks by me but has a lot to speak for it. It is very much a side quest, but that monster is not forgettable any time soon, and the mislead with the doctor is very convincing and sad.

Tommy Ross

Wow, the horror vibes in this one really got to me! The scene with Jenny screaming gave me ice cold chills! And the eye thing...if I were one of those childrens I would have nightmares for weeks! On another note: ss someone who speaks German their pronunciation of "Kindestod" was egregious! The "Kindes"-part is kinda understandable but I for the live of me can not hear anything even REMOTELY resembling the word "tod" in what they are saying😅 P.S. Yes Veggie I do the intro thing together with you (but actually just since last episode)🙈

Diego Zenhäusern

Hiya Veggie! To answer your questions: 1- I don't do the air drums thing during the theme tune because the cast is off and now I'm in rehab for my wrist, so the wrist is really sensitive. 2- My favourite U2 song is either One or In the Name of Love. But probably One. (My favourite Sting song is Desert Rose.) 3- I don't skip this episode when I do a rewatch, because I don't skip anyepisode. But I also haven't done a rewatch in many years. This is a great episode for me. And a stellar example of what Xander can be when he lets the better angels of his nature take over. (Sorry about the pun, but I can't think of another expression to say that at the moment.) He stood up to Angelus, protected Buffy as best he could and was a solid friend all around. Cordy continues to amuse. "Hanging on every 'ew'" (as said by Buffy) is a reaction I wish I could use more often. "Come on, Tact Guy," is also a favourite. Willow remains the brains of the operation, long after we feared for her life when that monster was looking for the brain of the smartest person around in Season 1. Now, I started watching this show as a teenager, so I didn't connect with Jenny and Giles as a couple in the same way I would if I were to watch the show for the first time now. And it's rather hard to retroactively change that attachment when you know how little time they have. But I was attached to Joyce and Giles... not as a couple per se, but as Buffy's parents, so to speak. So I really, really loved that Joyce went out of her way, in the midst of worrying about her daughter, to offer her sympathies to Giles for what he was going through. I loved that. 7/10

Frederique Gillespie

I actually really like this episode as a side quest, it’s further to the top of the pile of the kind of side quest it is, so far anyway. I think it’s probably 7.5/10. There’s like three main types of episodes to me, external side quests with a one time villain and is generally unrelated to the gang, there’s internal side quests where it is a one time issue or problem but it’s usually coming from inside our core group like bewitched and bothered (they usually rank higher than random villains for me) and then there is main quest episodes. However, not everything exactly fits this, for example, Halloween kind of sits in the middle of both side quest types. As far as the first external monster-of-the-week type side quests, I really like this one. I always love getting more Buffy backstory. I like that they linked it to main quest issues with Angel, Jenny’s death and her responsibility as a Slayer. I wish we’d got more Giles too but I get the sense that he is just making busy rather than processing. I love Willow here, such a good friend this episode especially. Cordelia is so funny but I’d hate to have her around in real life lol. I’ll finish with answering your questions. I don’t do the first bit with you at the end of the theme song and I’ve not heard much U2 but the ones I have heard I’ve really liked such as with or without you and Sunday Bloody Sunday but I know that they are far from deep cuts. Have a lovely weekend!! This comment is far too long!!!

Vertigo, for me. I once pulled a floppy disc out of my computer and Gran went crazy, thinking I'd broken something off it 😂
