Buffy Fridays! Season 2 Episode 15 First Time Reaction!

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1ViGVCXYY6CH9YqUEoY2h6PMErSidy65b/view?usp=share_link

Hahaha, I didn't see that twist coming at all!! Ok, we got to Oz's 'character fault', and it is a doozy! XD  Really enjoyed this Solid Side-Quest.  Felt like a lot of character building for all the love birds (i.e, everyone apart from Buffy 😢 Sorry, mean joke! XD)

At the start I talk a lot about what I think of Willow's reaction to Xander and Cordiellia, but that changes a LOT in this episode, so I back track on much of it! XD

Love you, guys!  This will be an interesting storyline going forward!

Have a great weekend!  As always, if you click the link shortly after it is posted, you may need to download it to watch!  This should be fixed in an hour or so! :)

Buffy Fridays! Season 2 Episode 15 First Time Reaction!

Comments

Hey Veggie, I'm speeding through these episodes but I had to mention your reaction to Kane's comment about Buffy and Giles being together as romantic partners and how you actually shuddered at that lol. Like most people you are grossed out at the idea of Giles a man of around 40ish being with a teenager but you've already accepted the idea of a 241 year old vampire dating a teenager. I'm just fascinated at how people ok with that just because Angel doesn't look as old.

Stephen Knueppel

Willow's reaction makes perfect sense. To her, he basically is saying that she's not enough because he doesn't want personality, just a hottie. It goes hand in hand with the Halloween episode and Buffy basically telling her the same thing. She spent the entire time being told that Xander would like her if she dressed "slutty" because Willow herself wasn't enough. It's a very upsetting realization that many non-conventionally "hot" girls have to grapple with, even in real life.

Hanneli Norrgard

I didn't see that coming either. I honestly always thought people where just being funny when they said Oz was to perfect🙈😅 (Though I'm personally on Willow's side: It isn't that much of a flaw now that they all know; just lock him up those 3 nights and the problem is solved 🙂)

Diego Zenhäusern

I think you're making a good point at the beginning. Willows heated reaction is absolutely understandable but that doesn't mean that its fair Xander! It's Xande's live and if he doesn't se her like that he just doesn't see her like that. apart from that and to be honest: At this point I'm actually squarely rooting against Xander and Willow (as I do against Xander and Buffy for that part 😅) as I really don't like the "if you try long and hard enough, he/ she will see that they actually love you (and don't just want to be your friend)" plotline, because it's just not how it works in reality most of the time (where it will often just end up being something between annoying and creepy). But on a happier note: Willow coming back to make the first move and kiss Oz made me sooo happy; you go get him girl!

Diego Zenhäusern

Ooh, ok, sorry that is my bad! I just wanted to make it clear I was not ok with what Larry did, as I did show him a lot of sympathy towards the end, and may have come across as not totally pissed at what he did! Please continue to comment as you were!! Yeah, 'Pillock' is a great word! XD It is a pretty old-school insult, but very mild too, which we would expect from Giles (basically like calling someone 'silly' XD). No need to apologise or change the way you comment! I always love reading your thoughts on these!! :)

VEGGIE GAMER

Hi Veggie! I know you well enough to know you would never approve of how Larry was treating Theresa and Buffy. You made that very clear. My apologies if I seemed to imply you hadn't. The difficulty when commenting on your (or anyone's) reactions is to know what to mention and how to proceed. Ideally, I'd take notes... but the right arm is still in a cast. Anyway, my comment on Larry was a general comment on his character (whom I actually like) NOT on your reaction to him. If nothing else, I don't think someone who lives their lives based on the ethical treatment of animals could find it acceptable to treat humans the way Larry had until the end of the episode. But, unfortunately, we weren't all so enlightened back in the '90s. Also, I forgot to mention: I need to make "pillock" a part of my vocabulary again. I speak French most often, but sometimes I have conversations in English. That word could come in handy!

Frederique Gillespie

Hi Freddie! I know you aren't saying this, but I really hope I didn't give the impression that what Larry was doing was ok at all, especially with what he did to Buffy! There is no excuse for that! When I say "it explains alot" and feel sorry for Larry's situation, that 100% DOES NOT EXCUSE what he was doing! Just wanted to make that clear, and again, I know that isn't what you were suggesting! XD Ozz is absolutely a thoroughly good egg!! (hope that's vegan)

VEGGIE GAMER

Willow may have been out of line to say what she said to Xander, although I think it's understandable how she feels. She has had feelings for Xander for a long time and has watched him hit on any woman who he sees except for her. I can imagine it would have made her feel 100 times worse to see him with someone who he supposedly hated. I can also see things from Xander's perspective though. I have female friends who I have been friends with since I was very young and I don't think I could ever see them as anything other than a friend even though I can completely see why they would be incredibly desirable to others.

Michael Short

Meh. If Willow doesn't view Oz's lycanthropy as a flaw, neither will I. After all "three days out of the month, I'm not much fun to be around either." This episode is full of gender cliches, but that one.... I felt that one. LOL I don't think Larry being gay excuses his sexual harassment of the female student population... but then this was the '90s and it is a Joss Whedon show. The show stands on its own merits and remains one of the best I have ever seen... but the creator's personality becomes a bit hard to ignore when you have situations like that. To me, anyway. But enough of that. For me, this is always a show about relationships. Oz is older and cooler than our core three. But, like Buffy, Xander and Willow, he's also fundamentally a good egg. He was only pushing Willow away to protect her. Perfect... even in his imperfection. Because this whole season is so Oz-mazing, I'll give this episode a 7.5/10. But on any other show, it'd be a standout.

Frederique Gillespie

Now that I've watched the whole reaction... Veggie, your reactions are always such a delight. This was the highlight of my day. I knew this one was going to be good, but your reaction to the Oz reveal was awesome. Or should I say Oz-ome. :D

Things are really heating up in this series now! The interactions between Angelus ("evil Angel") and every other primary and second character with whom he speaks is nothing short of enjoyable, even when it makes us squirm in discomfort. I don't feel it's a spoiler to say that! One thing (out of many) that I love about this show is that it doesn't shy away from the cold, hard truth that every single human being has flaws, sometimes significant flaws. We can feel disappointment and even anger at some of the words and/or actions from characters we adore and still keep on loving that character as a whole person. Buffy herself is not immune to having flaws, and she's the main heroine! Even beloved Giles, we saw his flaws his well. Now we see Oz's. Willow's insecurities and emotional turmoil, Xander's immaturity, Cordelia's self-absorbtion, Joyce working and leaving Buffy on her own a great deal of the time....the flaws are all there, but we love the people nonetheless. Because so many of us have those same flaws, or similar flaws, or unique flaws but flaws nonetheless. Okay, enough rambling after only hearing your intro! I need to watch the show now!

RavenLord

This is one of my favorites. Mainly because of Willow, but also for everyone else. “Buffy told me that sometimes what a girl makes has to be the first move and now that I say this I’m starting to think the written version sounded pretty good” is one of the top lines/line readings in the show for me.

Tommy Ross

Now Imagine how difficult it was for us not to spoil anything listening to you talk about how Oz is too perfect and doesn't have a flaw, and continually wondering when there is going to be a werewolf episode! With regards to Teresa - I believe Angel will have told her something like "Tell Buffy Angel sends his regards" right before draining her blood and turning her into a vampire. I do enjoy the little appearance of Angel, even though it is a side quest. When the episodes were on TV, this formula makes a lot of sense because a new viewer will be able to follow what is going on, but there is also some easter eggs for those that watch it every week as well!

Garry (Not Jerry)

You know what, Raven, you make an excellent point!! I honestly had kind of forgotten how much Cordy would actually bully Willow, as it hasn't felt like a one way thing for a while (that is definitely on me, and not on the show). I think that as soon as Buffy showed up it gave Willow enough confidence to give as good as she gets from Cordy. Maybe without the venom that Cordillia has, but Willow definitely has had many great comebacks to her. Now I remember how Cordy treated her in the first couple of episodes and that makes so much more sense! I guess I have come to see Cordy as the 'funny airhead rude girl', rather than the actual bully she used to be. Thanks for pointing that out!!

VEGGIE GAMER

I'm listening to your thoughts at the start and leaving a comment before watching the whole thing, so keep that in mind when you read this, Veggie. I'm leaving it now because I know I'll forget if I wait until the end. I see what you're saying about Willow at the start, and I can see why you'd compare Willow's reaction to Xander's reaction to Buffy in season one. But I would like to point out two differences between the two situations. One, while Buffy never gave any indication she was into Xander in that episode in season one, Xander almost kissed Willow in episode one of season 2, which means, however unintentionally, he's given her a reason to hope for more. And two, it isn't just that Xander is with someone else. It's that it's Cordy, who we know has bullied Willow repeatedly. Because of that, his being with Cordy is going to feel like a betrayal. It is his choice, but a certain amount of Willow's reaction is going to be based on a "why her" thing. Hope that makes sense.
